And honestly, I prefer the kinds of society where religious symbols aren't actually banned, they're just seen as really tacky to display if you're in a position of authority (religious institutions aside, one would imagine, as it would be themely/honest there).
Seeing someone in clothing which is associated with a particular non-majority religion just makes me think "Oh cool, one extra point on the diversity of mindsets/lifestyles scale for my city." Er... I don't really mean in a "collect them all!" kind of way, so much, more that it's evidence that the area isn't locked into one particular way of doing things.
