When in doubt, ask an autistic. Chances are, they're obsessed with what you need to know.

Autism Speaks will NEVER speak for me

I have seen that before and it appears to be a bit rigged and smacks of being rehearsed and note how the questions were kept short and simple all the way through to make it look good.
That 14 year old "Ben" was like me and even looked like me especially my personality. I was a skinny version of him. Even my hair was the same.

I also turned from very low functioning to high functioning after a bout of measles when I ran a dangerously high fever of 106degF

Some of the SLPs that I work with think that autism is over-diagnosed in children with severe language delays. Once the kid gets treatment, they improve, and seem magically "cured."

Note the little card the interviewer is reading from too which give me the impression that it is rehearsed and rigged.

Not all of it. Really.

Most "biomedical" remedies are in the forms of herbal supplements and vitamins. If you take any of those (and I do, for various reasons), then you are doing biomed.

This is the dark road that leads to Autistics Anonymous....

"Hi, my name is Dave and I'm autistic..."

"Hi Dave"

There will be donuts....

We get pins for not being autistic.... have an NT mentor to help us with the hard parts... learning to use a calculator instead of doing the math in our heads... watching sports without laughing at how stupid it is... resisting the urge to read, or do anything 'autie". You call your mentor if you feel the need to stim.... we can vote for Jenny McCarthy when the Autism Speaks Party runs her for Congress and she can hold hearings...

"Are you now or have you ever been an Autistic??" It will be called JennyMcCarthyism...

I think I'd rather drink the koolaid the nice man with the crazy eyes is passing around....

Good luck on that one. I've tried it, it's impossible.

I'd rather be autistic and eat as much candy and chocolates as I want, than be a NT by having a low sugar diet.

That's a good idea. I think I'll start an Autistics Anonymous organization. :)

More good ideas. But do you really think there aren't any NTs who are good at math, who like to read, and hate sports? I'm not sure anyone really likes to watch sports. I think they just watch it to fit in and feel like they are a part of something.

There are NTs out there who are good with math. There are NTs out there who don't enjoy sports. I don't see what reading has to do with AS. I know there are NTs out there who like to read. I think it's all a personality thing and the fact everyone is good with different stuff.

I believe you can change a lot about the way a brain functions through exercise, diet and environment and therapy. But these changes need to be kept up otherwise the brain will go back to the default setting.

I think it is dangerous to try and permanently change the structure of someone's brain through weird chemicals or otherwise.

Im all for treatments for autism but I dont think it should have all this fear thrown at it and extreme measures.

Please refrain from assuming that because you don't like something, that means nobody "really" likes it. Sports can be quite entertaining for some people. I personally enjoy the drama, uncertainty, and pleasure after your team wins. (I am very interested in baseball, specifically the Yankees.) I did not start watching baseball just to fit in with people--such a thought would never have even occurred to me. I started watching because it interested me.
