When in doubt, ask an autistic. Chances are, they're obsessed with what you need to know.

Back when I was very mentally ill, I felt the need to be held constantly. Now that I'm doing much better, that need has greatly diminished. I don't even really feel the need to hug my parents good night anymore.

Seriously though, I don't like being touched. I don't mind if family touches me, but anyone else, ugh.

Yup :)

It helps me feel like I'm in one piece. When I used to have huge, uncontrollable screaming meltdowns, the only thing that would work to help me calm down was my mum hugging me as tight as she could. Also, I need to sleep under a pile of heavy blankets that are wrapped snugly around me or I can't fall asleep because the covers feel weird.

Oh yes, that's definitely true in my case. In fact, I crave any kind of attention, even if I might be making a fool of myself  (which I'm usually not aware of, of course). From a nice young lady who's a bit younger than myself and a potential wife, I'll have a back rub or massage any day! :) I'll usually use an excuse like "I can't reach there myself" to get a willing young lady to scratch my back or spread sunblock/suntan lotion on my back and shoulders - which did happen once :D ! That lady is now, alas, married, so I cannot continue to ask her to do such things.

However, at my Bible Study group last night, a suitably-young lady was sitting on my left side on a couch, and we were all watching a DVD. Getting comfortable for the DVD, she shuffled closer to me (not intentionally; it just happened that way), and patted me in a very friendly way on my knee. WOW! :o I sure enjoyed that! I've never dated this girl, and I was very tempted to say a few extra words to her just before we left to go our separate ways, but I didn't say anything to her except goodbye.

Yes.

I'm to embarrassed by it to ask though.

That's why I get annoyed by people who are my friends. The hug every person except for me.>-<
