Well, you forgot sh***y mainstream ANYTHING (music, movies, tv, etc). If you're interests are obscure and aren't easily marketed to, you're useless to the marketing machine (and to the worthless drones who shell out money for trendy garbage, you're weird as well.)

But you're right, most of mainstream entertainment is driven by the things you mentioned, so its just as well I guess.

Maybe this poster is suggesting that special interests are disgusting because the person is so self-absorbed at the expense of any social contact or need for affirmation. This might appear selfish or self-indulgent.

just a theory.

One of my special interests helped me make some friends in high school, led to a BS degree in college, and then a successful career. What part of that is disgusting?

That is the dumbest thing I've ever heard, seriously, thats like saying Einsteins most disgusting habit was his vast skill with physics, basically its saying i will never get anywhere in life as well, because i'm only good with my obsessions :(

I have a theory regarding interests and NTs and aspies. In most cases, interests are composed of two parts, learning about the interest and doing it. It's hard to do something if you haven't learned anything about it, and doing usually results in more learning. I've known plenty of NTs to have obsessive interests. My observation is that NTs are more focused on the doing part of an interest while aspies are more focused on the learning part of an interest. Sometimes doing requires a great amount of learning for the NT and sometimes learning requires a great amount of doing for the aspie. The results may look the same, but the motivations are different.
