Aspies don't enjoy fiction?

There is much a circularity problem there - some definitions of AS has "dislikes fiction" as a possible diagnosis symptom (it is the case of Baron-Cohen, and also of the Atwood's Scale).

Of course, if you will to diagnose using these tools, you will end with a group of diagnosed aspies who, in average, don't like fiction.

I love fiction AND nonfiction. When I was young I read more fiction, I guess in a way trying to escape from the real world.

Now that I'm older I read nonfiction more often. I want to understand all people everywhere.

I prefer fiction, historic and modern life is just too boring for the most part.

I enjoy a great amount of fiction whether it is fantasy,sci-fi,horror etc..

I've a tendency to stay away from fiction novels, because it's hard for me to place myself in a world that is totally made up.

I prefer non-fiction to fiction and the fiction I like tends to be pretty action-based fantasy type stuff. I have a hard time visualising all the characters and following them and trying to figure them out and staying on track with the plot and eventually I just get bored. Non-fiction I can read easily unless it is a topic I really hate.

Agreed completely, though I read a LOT of fiction as a child. I mostly read Non-Fiction now and don't tend to get involved with Fiction as much.

But, as was said before, everyone is different so there is no definitive yes or no for this.

I don't really like fiction unless I can find something sutible for my intrests such as "Unicorns of Balinor".

I love fiction.

I go through periods where I cannot force myself to read a fiction book. During these periods, I even have a hard time watching a movie (though documentaries I tend to just eat up during them) I read science books, philosophy books, psychology books and stuff of the like...

Other times, I do read fiction. But for the most part, it's all one genre, and could even be more narrowly defined.

Terry Goodkind, Robert Jordan, David Eddings come to mind quickly.
Epic Fantasy I guess would be what you'd call it... battle between the child of the light and the child of the dark.
I think I like to read it, because they're so good at putting all the bullcrap religious rites and rituals and beliefs into a different light that look so silly, and that the reader, if they possess any intelligence can see for the discrimination, bigotry and "evil" that they are. I also like the ones that really like to obscure the line between the light- and the dark-sides.

I'm the same way. I guess I'm more interested in the "first person" perspective. There's more depth if you can know the inner thoughts of the protagonist.

I remember having to read plays in school. I hated this reading since the whole thing was dialogue. If I want dialogue I'd rather watch real actors than read it.

I like watching fiction, just not reading it.

A couple of Aspies I know from other boards aren't just into fiction--they're fanfic writers, and good ones at that.

Unknown whether I fit the criteria for being on the spectrum--but when I was younger I read mostly nonfiction. Fiction I got into as I got older, but in most cases it needs to be sci-fi or fantasy or I won't care.

I do read some fiction, but I am very 'picky' about it. I have around twenty fiction books I like and read over and over again. I don't think I am capable of going through one novel after the other; there are just very few that hold that degree of interest for me. I usually read reference books.

Perhaps strangely, I do read and write fan fiction. Although I don't view fanfic as being the same as novels. It concerns characters and universes you already know right from the start, not have to get to know and believe in afresh every time.

I love fiction. It's way more exciting than non-fiction. But I am really picky about what I read so I hardly ever read, but I do have a few books and one writer I really like.

I like fiction.

Mostly I read Heroic ficton (ie superheroes, space opera and the like) perticly the older more cheeser kind where you can clairly see who the good guys and bad guys are, as I'm (on the whole, although I will sometimes have dark thoughts and sometimes rant about them) highly moral and like too see the good guys win every time AND DON'T GET SICK OF IT!! !! !! !!

If it is set in a fansy world that' even better!

I just thought that you'd like to know my view as we all have them.
