My "imaginative play" was usually somewhat limited to whatever my obsession was at the time. As a kid, i went through a bunch of phases of being really obsessed with a certain movie or tv show... I watched them over and over again and usually wanted to become the main character. Some big ones were Robin Hood, Wizard of Oz, Rainbow Brite, and, as an older kid, Pokemon.. With a few smaller/shorter lived ones scattered in between. Even then, my tendency to get my mind stuck on something and take an interest over-the-top was starting to show. They did switch and get replaced by new things, though. And i always liked animals. I also became really tomboyish once i started to have much of a choice about things, too. The "girl stuff" all the girls at school slowly started to get into i thought was just stupid. The most AS-y stuff about me, though, was that i didn't use a lot of facial expressions, didn't usually know how to join in with the other kids' normal play, and was sometimes oblivious to the fact that i was supposed to respond back to other people when they said something to me. For these reasons, my first grade teacher thought i was "slow," lol. But, my language, motor skills, and everything developed normally and i was pretty smart.

I was majorly obsessed with Greek gods and goddesses at one point. I made up my own stories involving them.

Other kids got bored with hearing how long Smilodon's canine teeth were ...

Wow, me too! Also Egyptian and Norse. Named most of my cats after them. Also very interested in Ice Age animals (still am), especially sabre-toothed cats. Learned very early that teachers found this charming (or faked it well), but it was the kiss of death to mention these interests to playmates. Gee, wonder why I hung around the adults...

I never really got into "girly" stuff. I wasusally wanting to play with the boys, and was into science. I always wanted things like chemistry sets, etc, but they were afraid I'd blow up the house. Now think about it, I probably would've!

The way I've heard it explained is that girls are often "little philosophers" while boys are "little professors", but I don't know if I agree with that.

I find that too, I'm a little philospher if the ever was one. Also the boys are better at factual subjects like maths or trains and the girls are more creative/artistic in their interests like art or music. And the boys are known for being flat effect and the girls have more intense emotions.
