In all honesty, I doubt people will get their money back, so it's probably best that those who have donated are philosophical about it (lesson learnt and all that crap).

On the upside, I doubt he'll show his face here again and if he does, enough people know about this scam to warn others.

If Sean was genuinely posting here to begin with because he likes WP, then he's gone and shot himself in the foot because for the sake of 500 dollars, his reputation is pretty much in shreds.

WHY is ANYONE fighting with B9???? He has explained himself quite well. It was his choice to make, and he made it. Fully informed, I might add - or, at least, as fully informed as anyone can be on the internet.

Life is about risks. Some people are willing to take the risk that they've just been scammed. SO WHAT. Not your money, not your risk.

I, too, have been generous in a few shady circumstances. Never beyond what I could fairly afford; I accepted the risk as a price I was willing to pay for some unknown upside. I never sold anyone else on following me; I knew my choice was my choice; not someone else's. I left those situations content with my decisions. The result was less important than my ability to hope for something that didn't happen.

Kind of like buying a lottery ticket. You don't buy the real ability to win; you buy the ability to dream about the "what if" should you win. You can't win if you don't play, so you play just enough to get to dream.

Sometimes people do the same thing with charity. Maybe someday that little investment will actually pay off. More likely it won't. But it is nice to dream.

So ... get over it. Allow people their choices. There is no need to hash over who made what choice and why. Done is done.

I hope you're not insinuating that I am an idiot. I don't often go out of my way to help people, but I thought getting two people who care about each other together at last -- girl sick or not -- was a worthwhile use of money that I would otherwise have spent on non-essentials.

I'll admit that some of this is starting to look dodgy, but I honestly think there's more to it than we know. If Sean never gets back to us and no evidence of the trip ever arrives, I will admit my mistake, be glad I didn't send more, and that will be that. For now, I'm still in the camp that says it's too early to close the case on this one.

What I don't understand and still don't understand is why anyone believed it was a good thing to send him on an airplane anywhere. He didn't answer any question directly throughout this thread. I feel compassion for a sad story as much as anyone but his inability to answer easy questions led me to believe he is either being scammed or just not capable of doing anything like getting on a plane and flying somewhere alone. If I think of all the endings to this story there are much worse ones than he has been dishonest. I couldn't imagine anyone that knew him would let him go without an escort. I couldn't imagine him arriving and his girlfriend rejecting him. I couldn't imagine the hurt he would feel, the humiliation, and no one can project how he would have reacted. I thought maybe he slid away because he found out he was being scammed and was ashamed. I couldn't believe he wasn't already embarrassed by the way he was treated by A or her mother. It might be too hard to tell the truth. I couldn't believe he would post that she is completely ignoring me ..... I mean really it is unbelievable he would consider going to see her when all she was doing was ignoring him?? If he meant anything to her wouldn't her mother know??

Why did anyone give him any money??????

I am kind of upset it was allowed to continue. I hope he is a scammer because it should have been stopped. It could have been stopped easily too, with some rule about using the site for donations to other causes. If it was innocent, if he is telling the truth, reread his posts. He isn't capable of making a decision here without help and supervision.

Note: Many people did try to get clarification and it was continually ignored. People were slagged by other people for not having a heart, or not believing. Who would be responsible here if he showed up and A's family freaked and had him toted off? Who would be responsible here if he went and stayed in a skanky IN campground and was offered a ride to the hospital by some lunatic? Who would be responsible if he showed up with flowers, looked like his avatar picture, and someone asked him "What were you thinking?" Is it ok that his answer would be 'all my friends told me to go.'

People would not be attacking him if he did not insult the people who were warning people this was a scam. His giving large sums of money to the scammers creates an air of legitimaze to the scammers making other believe the scammer is not out to steal their money. In a way he is helping the scammer look legit. In my opinion his blind generosity and willingness to attack the skeptics when they point out flaws in the scammers story makes him as dangerous as the scammer.

I just wanted to say that if anyone thinks b9 was bragging about his financial status, they're jumping to conclusions.
It's not in his nature to do so, IMHO. Just the facts,ma'am.

There is nothing wrong with believing in someone. There is nothing wrong with giving to worthy causes. But there is something wrong with financing a trip for someone who cannot answer simple questions. No one is judging anyone for believing, or having a sweet heart. But no one even has any concrete CONFIRMATION Sean isn't 15 years old, let alone the rest of the story is true. I have not seen one post....not one post...that says they know Sean for real, in person. This is just irresponsible and a possible 20/20 story. ((Austic boy abducted by pervert at campsite when he was on a false pilgrimage to reach his sick girlfriend's side))

I stick to the hope it is a scam and he hasn't got himself all puffed up on NOTHING and on the road to Indiana, with flowers in hand. It was puffing him all up....maybe the only real attention he has ever received.

sorry todesking is right on...it did give validity to Sean's cause that someone made a big donation---why isn't anyone seeing how this is all kinds of wrong to give money to someone without the FACTS

:?

I agree. I started out as a supporter in the beginning and then I changed my status to a non-supporter for obvious reasons. It's entirely possible for someone to have more than one screen name here at WrongPlanet.net and to play many rolls in something like this to scam others out of money. I hope people reading this post will remember this in the future when something pops up like this again.

( You won't be able to see the page unless you are logged into Facebook; it's a short list of Sean Michael Wilsons, one of whom is unmistakeably seanmw, [ identical photo ], and I accessed his Facebook page from there ).

And yet it doesn't seem to have bothered the two or three WP members whose faces I see on seanmw's friend's list. Maybe they haven't noticed this thread and/or not realised that seanmw's girlfriend was ever in any danger, because there's nothing about it on Sean Michael Wilson's "Wall", at all, just dozens and dozens of Mafia Wars and Vampire Wars game "progress reports", going back to January and earlier.

8O :x :wall: :eew:

PS. It occurs to me that maybe the only reason why he couldn't play the same game on his Facebook page is that two of his sisters, and an awful lot of his college/high school friends too, are on his Facebook friends list.

... ... ... EDIT. I've just noticed that his mother, and his grandpa, ( pictured holding up a big fish! :lol ), are on his FB "friends" list too.

After I went to bed last night I was thinking along similar lines as Todesking and Lene:

:lol We could maybe ask TeaEarlGreyHot who seems to be one of his Facebook Friends to do that! :) Actually I was thinking that seeing as he doesn't seem to have wanted to play the same "game" on Facebook and this may be because his mom, his grandpa, two of his sisters and a lot of his highschool friends are on there ... he might consider sending what money he hasn't already spent back to people in order to avoid TeaEarlGreyHot boiling over with indignation on his Wall! :lol
.

While you were away, Bravo bought the thread and is launching it as their next Reality TV series (working title: "Scam or No Scam?") Rumor has it Hugh Grant and Sandra Bullock have been approached for roles in a Lifetime straight-to-TV Movie adaptation. Get your popcorn ready.
