Autistics are bad at interacting with people.

Only if autistics don't count as people. I interact excellently with other autistics. It's neurotypicals I have trouble with... and they with me.

List all the myths of AUTISM

1. Myth: All of those with autism are identical.
2. Myth: Some doctors and some non-profits will never fib (lie) about autism so as to look good or to raise money.
3. Myth: Insurance health care plans will really try to help all those with autism.
4. Myth: Insurance health care plans will all test for autism / ADHD / dyslexia in adults.
5. Myth: The news media, in general, including reporters understand what autism really is.
6. Myth: Autism is completely different than and cannot overlap with learning disabilities, the many epilepsies, and so on.
7. Myth: Autism is all caused by vaccines. Autism is all caused by food additives. Autism is all caused by lack of megadoses and megadoses of Vitamin C. Autism is all caused by the fluoride in the water.
8. Myth: All doctors and psychologists really have good training in and understand autism.
9. Myth: Everyone with autism is exactly like Temple Grandin.
10. Myth: Einstein had severe autism.

11. Myth: Autism seminars regularly allow persons with autism to speak (vs being promotional drumbeating for the professionals who speak at the autism seminars who do not allow public questions about what they might verbally present as facts vs likely fiction).
12. Myth: Most teachers are well trained in what autism / other neurological challenges are believed to be and can easily access and integrate resources to help those with autism / other neurological challenges.
13. Myth: The very first person a sports coach thinks about at school to put on a school sports team is a person with autism.
14. Myth: ...

(continued later - maybe)

"Asperger's? Pah. That's just some Californian new-age nonsense."

"But you can't be autistic - you look so... normal" (step into my head and take a look around, buster...)

That we're artistic! I don't know where that comes from :D It made my mum and I laugh so much in the film made of Temple Grandin, when Temple says "I don't like the doors, I'm autistic" or something like that and then the woman says "oh my son's like that with aeroports, he's artistic too" :D :D

Erm...I don't know how my parents thought of autism before, but they thought it was much more obvious. They don't get how I can be perfectly confident with them and turn into a gibbering animal when around peers.

Hey, I talk like a robot and can't make eye contact.

Mine:

All aspies are visual thinkers.
Female aspies as more high-maintenance emotionally than NT females (not always true)

I am, and such to a point that I will probably NEVER EVER overcome the fear. (Which I have heard is rare). However, that doesn't mean ALL autistic people are.

Which reminds me of another myth:

All autistic people LOVE animals and HATE people.

I love dogs!

I've heard that I "can't possibly have Asperger's" because:
- "People with Asperger's look like they're 'not there.'"
- "You want to change. People with Asperger's can't change."
- "People with Asperger's don't want friends."
(And this was a neuropsychologist that told me this! 8O )

I was absolutely screaming-and-climbing-the-walls-terrified of dogs until around the age of 7, when my family got a puppy.
It changed everything and now, two of my closest friends are dogs. Seriously. We have a real, two-way relationship.
There's nothing as honest, open and loving as a dog. (except maybe a cat, but I'm not a cat person)

I guess my phobia is worse than yours than. I don't think dogs like me very much. Even your dogs wouldn't. No dogs do. Well, maybe one or two.

It's interesting that your 2 best friends are dogs and my 2 best friends aren't dog people.

I actually have sensory issues with dogs.

Myth: Aspies walk differently because they have poor balance.

Having trouble walking isn't a symptom of AS.
