I love cats. When I was younger I more much more of a dog person, but I think I kind of did a 180 a couple years ago when I adopted a border collie from the humane society. She's a beautiful dog and I love her personality and I appreciate the exercise I get from walking her during warmer months, but she is freaking FULL of energy all the time, and especially when I'm coming home from work or school I usually don't want to be bothered. Fortunately my parents fell in love with her and "adopted" her into their house so she wouldn't have to be stuck in my 1 bedroom apartment. When I was volunteering in the cattery at the humane society I got my dog from, I discovered that I'm actually a cat person. They're much more independant but at the same time they have a need for attention and "love" that manifests itself sort of randomly, which is kind of how I picture myself. Right now I have a 1 year old siamese cat. She's the most therapuetic aspect of my life; when I'm at a climax of confusion and frustration with the people around me I can calm myself down by looking at her and wondering what she's thinking.

I have 2 Border Collie mixes. Border Collie + One room apt = disaster. I have to take them to the dog park all the time so they can run around and use up their energy.

I believe it. And the beautiful thing about cats its that the smarter they are the more mysterious they are.

I've had many cats over the years, but never had a siamese cat so maybe the siamese cat lovers can explain this behaviour to me. I was cat-sitting for a neighbour who was on holiday once and when I went into the house her two cats went into what I thought was a stalking position (down on the ground with their ears back, staring at me) I clapped my hands to make them run away so I could get to their food bowls to feed them but they obviously resented me being in their house.

Do siamese cats have that 'guarding the home' attitude that dogs have? I've never come across it before with cats.

To an extent. Cats will protect their owner just like dogs. If that weren't so I'd be dead, Gopher, my can, saved both my life and my mother's. Gopher was a black cat but if you looked at him in the sun you could see his Siamese markings.

My first Siamese, Samantha, was a music lover. She listened to all kinds of music with me, from Classical to Classic Rock and Roll. When music was playing, Samantha would paw at the door to be let into my room and we'd sit on the bed together listening. My current cats are not interested at all.

Cow Kitty is the only cat that will let me get away with rubbing her belly.

Not many kitties will allow that. I had a very placid cat once who loved her tummy stroked but Mr Spud (the cat I've got now) would bite me if I tried that with him.

I love both cats and dogs. A cat or a dog will never cheat on you, or hurt you, or shoot you.
