I have an aspie friend who is very social and he didn't get that until he was an adult after his diagnoses. Everyone accepts him but he can't get dates but he has tons of friends. He isn't married either and has accepted he may never get one. I sometimes envy him but I know I wouldn't want all those friends, it be too overwhelming. Everyone tells him "that explains it" when he tells them he has it. Especially his old school mates from childhood.

Is there such a thing as mild Aspergers? If there is enough difficulty in someones life for them to be diagnosed then surely it's not mild.

Some people just learn to act too, see this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IFxWdpuyY6o

Also, if you're not neurotypical that means you think in a fundementally different way from others, so I don't see why they would say they're NT if they're not.

That's like a slight introvert claiming they are extravert.

I don't know. I'm highly social and have been accused of not actually being autistic. I have been married. (though I am now divorced) I have never kept a normal job.

Yet there are shy people on the spectrum who are able to read others much better than I am. Being social is not the same as being able to read others. Better to be the wallflower than the annoying girl.

No?

This entire post is most-autistic-than-thou nonsense.

Just because someone on the spectrum is sociable doesn't mean they have very good social skills. Same as for having tons of friends.

I wish more people would understand that!

I can read non-verbal social cues by instinct, but that doesn't mean I have better social skills. I still suck at making friends.

I am an HFA and sometimes I wonder if ways it is harder for us than for LFA's. Even though I am married and I have worked. my life is difficult. Other people may look at me and think my life is easy but they don't know what I go through on the inside. And it is really hard because no matter how hard you try many people in your life will never choose to believe that you are an Aspie and you are expected to meet all the demands of life like an NT and you just have to figure out a way to do it. You don't qualify for any help because you look too normal. So you just have to do your best and if your best is not good enough that's just too bad. But I don't complain about it, I just do the best I can and try to cope as well as I am able. It's my life and I have to live it.

I agree. The OP either doesn't grasp this or he's being a troll and trying to stir up trouble between members on different parts of the autistic spectrum. Time to put an end to this nonsense.
