Never mind, I remember now, he's the American radio host who said we should all get drunk to lessen our symptoms. I found that pretty funny at the time (and maybe sometimes true?), but when did he use the phase Ass - Burgers?

Wow, I already hated Rush Limbaugh, but now I hate him even more.

Sorry for reviving an ancient thread but I do have a question about how to pronounce Asperger. I've been saying it exactly how it's spelled "AS-PER-GER". I've heard it pronounced with a "JER" at the end and also with "ASH" at the beginning. Are either of these right?

thanks,

acsdad

I've heard a few American right wingers say that they believe asperger's is a made up syndrome.

Yeah well the thing you have to bear in mind about americain right wingers is they ALWAYS have something to hide in their closest so to speak so they like to take the attention of themselves.

Also this opinion is not isolated to right wingers there are professionals who feel this way as well. The main reason for this disagreement is because Doctor Kanner (Kanner autism what the stereotype autism is weve come to know) was a yank and Doctor Hans Asperger was a Kraut and of course the mentality of any doctor from this time period was that they were a nazi henchman of some sorts performing evil experiments on kids.

That basically is what the basis is they don't like the fact that the kraut finally got recognised by Lorna Wing and co cause he was on the wrong side in world war 2 and it is utterly pathetic. Same attitude displayed by the two cambridge scientists who discovered DNA without creditting Rosevelt Franklin till she was dead

Cause when you begin to think of aspergers in relation to the autistic spectrum you begin to see how it starts to become quite an odd enigma for the established theories in psychology and other fields start to come into question. Its a disorder but hold on its not because and oh wait its hereditary and oh wait its actually in quite a significant chunk of the intellectual population and err ohh its not really a disability but weve put it in the DSM IV now :P

yah one time they made an Aspergers joke on becker, you know that one black lady who works for becker and the younger immature lady who also works for him? well heres somewhat how it went, I dont remember all of it

younger lady (reading a peice of paper and laughing): hey check it out, this patient has Assburgers!

other lady: its Aspergers, and dont make fun of him, Aspergers is a serious emotional disorder!

young lady: hey i wonder if he orders Assburgers to go? Hahahaha!! !

after hearing that I really wanted to kick her a*s

hehe i know this sounds stupid but they should rename aspergers to Idaho disorder, that way it would almost be impossible to make a joke about it without making a joke about yourself. :D

If it's unfortunate that those dx'd w/Aspergers sound like Ass Burgers, think of all the teasing that poor Hans had to endure! and his entire family!!

Now I'm mad because I just heard that the name is pronounced with a hard G and I've pronounced it with a soft G because I have hear three professionals, one child psychologist, one social worker who worked for a psych. hospital and a school counselor pronounce it Asberjerz!! ! Originally, I had pronounce it correctly. Oh Bother!

Our son's doctor pronounced it As-per-ger. I went to an event at AANE ( www.aane.org ) and they too pronounced it this way but they showed a video where the speaker used the "jer" at the end. I chalked it up to her being from Minnesota. One of my wife's friends used the "ash" at the beginning as did someone in an E.I. meeting. Strange. I don't see how you can do the "ash" or the "jer" looking at the word "Asperger".

I avoid the "ass burger" comment by telling people "it's spelled 'a-s-p-e-r-g-e-r' but pronounced like 'autism'".

I made a post a couple of weeks ago about this very topic (see http://www.wrongplanet.net/asperger.html?name=Forums&file=viewtopic&t=10684).

And since when was it pronounced with a hard G? I've always pronounced it with a soft G, and will always continue to do so. Then again, I'm rediculously stubborn.

when my kids heard the name, they immediately picked up on it (i hadn't of course), so they gave me the nickname "booger butt". my kids and my best friend and i laugh about it together. i guess though if it were someone other than people that i love that i knew were laughing with me, i'd be more upset because i would probably feel they were making fun of me. but for now i am affectionately known as booger butt by my kids and best friend and it doesn't bother me in the least--just an inside joke.

My pet name for Rush Limbaugh is Rash Lumbago, he's a pain, irritating, plus a legend in his own mind. Like other ultra-right wing pundits, they only exist to whip up hatred which makes money for them.

Peace

I'm a right of center guy but I'm embarassed by the Rush types. There's plenty of these characters on the far left too. I have a problem with anyone who thinks their party can do no wrong.
