You know, most of my perseverations are related to communicating with and/or helping humankind in some way (even though I currently have no non-related friends I talk to), so I would probably lose my will to live. Then after waiting for a few weeks to see if I died of grief/starvation, I might go steal one of those Imagination Engine computer programs (Hurray for not having to buy it from the manufacturer! xD), name it HAL 0000, and put so much effort into training it into the ultimate artificial human that it would feel smothered and try to kill me. Yay!

I would also be sure to plant a garden full of as many exotic superfoods as I could gain access to. No idea what the point of lengthening an entirely isolated life would be, but yeah...might as well face the loneliness with a non-painful body.

I wonder if I would develop an addiction to one-sided relics of human companionship, such as TV and ren'ai games? They might just drive me insane instead of helping the situation.

Very very quickly find some texts on the operation of nuclear power facilities. Shut down as many as possible, as fast as possible. Given the chance to be the last living human, it'd be nice to make sure the legacy of humanity was not one of further environmental disaster. After that... go round every veterinary clinic, farm, RSPCA shelter I could find and release the animals so they didn't starve. Sure, they might struggle to survive, but it's better than certain death. After that... write down everything I knew about the last 5 years. Connect a photocopier to a generator and stash copies in lots of safe places, just in case something gets the chance to read them. Finally, I suppose I'd spend time gradually being driven insane by the isolation, while looking after any house-cats I'd found along the way.
All on the assumption I was sure I was the last human - otherwise, I suppose I'd spend some time trying to be sure.

As for me, asking me, one of the biggest King's fans if I've read the Stand is like asking a tiger if it's ever eaten meat
Anyway, I borrowed this book to a friend of mine and even though I had informed her before that this novel is as long as the Bible (what is true), she was very angry when she saw this book because she said she couldn't know how long it is and that she'd never read something that is so incredibly song.

y'all better consider farming.

One thing is considering this on a short-term basis. Canned food will go bad in about 2 years max, so there you go. Everything has an expiration date, and unless you die first, they're all going to expire.

Batteries in cars will fade in about 5-6 years, so after that, it's shoe leather. Learning to fly is best done by having someone else around. I read a book on flying (Stick and Rudder, it's ancient, but a very good source), that says all your natural instincts would get you killed. To go up, you go down, and to go down, you go up, etc..;)

Nuclear plants do have problems; but you'd need to get into them. I used to work in one, and the security would stop a lot of people, because the doors are electric, and that would go out.

Most of them would probably go out eventually, they have to be refuled every few years or so.

So you'd do best to collect seeds and do some gardening, because that'll be your food for awhile. Hunting would be something you could do, but remember, you'd be in the food chain too. Something has to feed all those masterless dogs and cats. Elk's probably good, but they can also weigh 800 pounds or so. Have to do the butchering on site, then salt it until you can get to civilzation. Make sure it's a good car or jeep, 'cause AA won't be around to get you out of the ditch.

so, unless you're a pilot, it's by car or boat, and you can get killed on a yacht just as easily as a plane, only more slowly..;)

There's a series of books by Stirling about an apocolypse that rendered all electrical and gunpowder power useless, it was a good education on what really matters..;)

The lonliness might get to you, but as long as you have a generator of some sort, gasoline (which would evaporate over time), and lots of spares, it would be something to get you by.

I'd really miss the Internet. And with all the stray dogs around, I would probably indulge in some Chinese cooking, if you get my meaning.

As the remnants of civilisation rapidly decayed and grew over, life would devolve to an extremely harsh stoneage existence. I would be lonely and miserable. I'm terrible at socializing but I like to be around people. Ergo: my life would be a short one.
