y'all better consider farming.
One thing is considering this on a short-term basis. Canned food will go bad in about 2 years max, so there you go. Everything has an expiration date, and unless you die first, they're all going to expire.
Batteries in cars will fade in about 5-6 years, so after that, it's shoe leather. Learning to fly is best done by having someone else around. I read a book on flying (Stick and Rudder, it's ancient, but a very good source), that says all your natural instincts would get you killed. To go up, you go down, and to go down, you go up, etc..
Nuclear plants do have problems; but you'd need to get into them. I used to work in one, and the security would stop a lot of people, because the doors are electric, and that would go out.
Most of them would probably go out eventually, they have to be refuled every few years or so.
So you'd do best to collect seeds and do some gardening, because that'll be your food for awhile. Hunting would be something you could do, but remember, you'd be in the food chain too. Something has to feed all those masterless dogs and cats. Elk's probably good, but they can also weigh 800 pounds or so. Have to do the butchering on site, then salt it until you can get to civilzation. Make sure it's a good car or jeep, 'cause AA won't be around to get you out of the ditch.
so, unless you're a pilot, it's by car or boat, and you can get killed on a yacht just as easily as a plane, only more slowly..
There's a series of books by Stirling about an apocolypse that rendered all electrical and gunpowder power useless, it was a good education on what really matters..
The lonliness might get to you, but as long as you have a generator of some sort, gasoline (which would evaporate over time), and lots of spares, it would be something to get you by.
