Why do people keep digging up ancient threads?

The ancient thread was how I found the forum. I'll need to spend some time immersing myself before I've caught up to the present day;).

Because starting a new one, instead of the better option of assuming the role of a thread necromancer for a moment, is a more rational choice - making a new thread on the same topic that was already discussed is dumb.

If thread is over 3 years old I'd much rather a fresh start with new persepctives, I don't recognise any of the people who posted in this originally.
It also means having to shift through old posts to get to the point.

I don't see why anyone couldn't just add their point of view to the already existing discussion.

There's an older thread about older threads here: :)
What's so wrong about replying to a slightly old post?

Almost certainly not Aspie, but certainly something like it
