People who promote bare feet as a lifestyle seem to think that tiptoeing is the most natural and healthy way to walk, report that it is evident in the arches and overall alignment. We probably don't stomp much, when going barefoot. I think of treading carefully, through tall grass.

I do hard, physical labor in bare feet, including splitting wood, rock climbing, and occasional shoveling. I sometimes pick up goats heads thorns, but they barely penetrate, now, even when callouses are smoothed away.
I save shoes for going out, in public. My compromise is open toes or round toes. I feel that they are still burdensome, but going bare feet often elicits a strong, negative response, even in campgrounds.
And, I am more prone to walk on tiptoes.
I do have sprains or injuries, but they are never long lasting.
