I would definitely find an accounting degree impossible. I'm terrible with money as it is.

I'm happy being a scientist in a lab where I don't have to have clients and have my own little space

I dropped out of accounting because it was awfully boring.

Accounting is one possibility, but it depends on the individual. Many Aspies go into IT, but that field made me so miserable I eventually just quit. There's always more to a field of work than the work itself.

I'd throw myself off a bridge if I was designated that as a career, not perfect for me!

Hi!

I saw this post and tried going for accounting. After some time I was hired at an accounting firm. To sum up, it didn’t go well. It was worse than any regular office. They bullied me out of the job. I want to make it clear I didn’t see any clients, although I am good with them. I just don’t seem to do well with emotionally wounded women, which are everywhere. I wouldn’t recommend accounting as a career for an aspie. Any office job would be a disaster. There is no problem being hired. The problem is being able to stay. I have done very well as a private contractor. There I work by myself or with 1 to 2 people, and that works well. I would highly warn aspies not to seek office jobs. Another option is to start your own business if you have the resources. But make sure to have a manager that knows how to deal with people, and deal with that person only as employees can sabotage your business if unhappy. Good luck to all of you!

I struggle a great deal with sitting still, so accounting, or any other job where I have to sit in the same place all day, is not a good option for me. I object to the idea that aspies should only be able to choose from a few jobs that NT's have decided we should be doing, while NT's should be able to do whatever job they want. I think that we aspies should be able to do the jobs that interest us, just like NT's can, and the workplace should work with us to reasonably accommodate our needs.

I am not a numbers person but I did manage to get an A in Accounting. I think that was because I showed up for class and took good notes. It was a lot of hard work for me. I still don't know how I managed to do so well in that class, because I really don't have a head for numbers. I am more of a word person.

In my case, no. It could be worse though.

It's not the math and patterns, it's the words and terms.
