I don't so much forget about eating as procrastinate eating. I know I'm hungry and I know I should eat, but I don't actually get up and make food. This can go on for hours. (It's going on right now...)

I do pretty consistently get three meals a day, though.

I suppose I am frequently annoyed by the task of eating on most days. I often think to myself "didn't I just do this a few hours ago...?" ... If I don't think about it, I sometimes go most of the day not actually eating much of anything (yes, I forget), before caving in and devouring all sorts of food at the end of the day. Most days I eat first around noon-1pm, I never eat a breakfast.

I've already taken to eating mostly fruit/vegetable matter, actually growing much of it myself, in addition to harvesting many wild edibles locally - the fruits of vaccinum, asimina, and rubus genus' are in season at the moment, and these are some of my favorite. I have learned to incorporate more interesting activities such as taxonomy to make such things more interesting. I try to make sure what I eat is nutrient-rich. I have memorized average nutritional constitution, as well as portion sizes, and I tend to select what I eat based on my caloric needs for the day - and then a bit extra for good measure because I run about 2 miles a day.

A tufted titmouse! Be proud!

As to the OP - yes! I do this constantly. Also, someone mentioned eating and then, later, not remembering if they had eaten or not. I do this, also. Forgetting to eat is so common for me that when my boyfriend gets home from work, if he doesn't see dishes in the sink (or clean and drying on the counter, he will ask, "did you eat anything today?" I often have to think about it before I can say yes or no, and sometimes simply cannot remember what I had, although I know that I did, indeed, eat. Once in a while, I'll tell him, yes, I had such-and-such, then later realize that no, that's what I had the day before - I didn't actually have anything that day.

I occasionally forget to eat, but it's not a problem as my mum usually cooks my meals so I always have at least 1 meal a day. But I do often forget to drink. This can be a problem. A lot of the time I have to really plan out when I will have a drink and how much etc. otherwise I will end up with a headache or something.

If you become Lacto-Ovo-Vegetarian, you should be able to live on a food budget of around $US 35 equivalent/week with 3 standard meals a day.

From what I've seen in Australia (not sure about US), meat is much more expensive than beans as a protein source. Undoubtedly meat contains all of the essential amino acids and beans don't, but you can always complement the beans with rice or oats.

Sorry, I don't think I could be any kind of vegetarian. I like meat too much and will only eat a few veggies due to texture issues. It's probably better for me to not eat. >.<

I've lived on a lot less (not entirely healthy, though...).

I've always preferred peanut butter (chunky) on wheat bread as an alternative protein source (if I had a food processor, I'd make my own peanut butter, which is extraordinarily cheap, from my understanding. I don't really know the price of palm oil, though). That and milk. Oh, man, MILK. I could drink a half gallon or more of that stuff a day (as long as it's 1-2%).

And yeah, I've got crazy-tough bones.

Fascinating thread. This is why I need to live alone. When I'm with others I eat whenever they do, and eat whenever I pass the kitchen. My weight reaches 300 lb (I'm 6 foot 6). When I'm on my own I can go for 12 hours without food easily, and return to my normal healthy weight of 200 lb.

I only eat when food is put in front of me or when someone reminds me that it's time to eat. I can easily become so engrossed in something that I forget about a lot of necessary bodily functions - I will sometimes finish my project and suddenly realise that I desperately need to use the toilet. I will frequently, for two to three minutes at a time (that's a guess), literally forget to breathe, only realising this when I start to go dizzy and my lungs hurt. When I was an infant, I would pass out from this - which worried my parents, and resulted into several visits to a doctor. Forgetting to eat is so common that food itself actually seems a bit alien to me.
Actually, is that one just me? I find eating a little disgusting. Most people won't eat something that someone else has already taken a bite out of because it's got that person's saliva and bacteria on it. Well, I have that trouble with food I've bitten into. Sometimes I will stop mid-chew, too disgusted with what's happening in my own mouth, and have to force myself to swallow. It's why I love soup: I can just put it in my mouth and swallow it, and admittedly there are occasions in which I have to get a new spoon now and then, just to satisfy my disgust at my own saliva.
Which is odd, because I'm not remotely germophobic - in fact, my personal hygene is probably below average except for oral.
[Sorry for a slight derailing there.]

I don't really have to be engrossed in anything to forget to eat. When I do realize that I need to eat something, I usually don't feel hungry. I just feel the need to eat something because if I don't I know I'm going to end up with a headache.

I'll put it this way, this thread just made me realize i haven’t eaten in almost 24h.

I realized a few minutes ago that I hadn't eaten in about 30 hours and so instead of rushing off to fix something to eat, I started looking for threads on forgetting to eat.

So it isnt enough to have a new thread on this subject?

We ALSO have to revive a five year old thread on the same subject at the same time?

Happens to me all the time. I only remember to make breakfast and eat lunch when my mother does.

She's been away the past couple days and I've skipped lunch and breakfast two days in a row without even realizing until dinner time and my stomach is grumbling.

Not uncommon for me when I'm doing a prolonged chore(s) like working in the yard, or getting highly involved in a computer game. Often forget to drink fluids too, which isn't good. I'm usually promptly 'punished' later by headaches, fatigue and a myriad of other issues.
