Whoa, I just joined up here but...anyone mind telling me why this is a sticky topic? Is there some sort of 'thing' with people with Asperger's moving to Los Angeles? I'm moving to LA, probably this Fall.

I can see a few Asperger's-related advantages:
-Music and videogames are my main passions in life. I'd like to find a career in music.
-I'm sensitive to the cold, and I'm always happy when it's sunny outside.
-Don't judge me, but I just love smoking weed.
-Lots of people = anonymity, opportunities to practice social skills...I love going out every weekend

Moving to LA fits me in a variety of other ways too. Is it common for Aspergers peeps to move to LA for some reason?

Awesome! Welcome to CA!

L.A. is mostly full of ordinary people, just like everywhere else.

most of the negativity directed toward the people here is from people who do not live here.

BUT there is amazing culture here. Downtown LA is a must see. Tons of history and food. The architecture is amazing all over LA, Pasadena. Go to the Getty and the LACMA. Be careful in Venice a lot of gangs. But tons of food and shopping, the famous muscle beach walk around and see the art and freaks, art. You don't say what you like to do or interests so it's guessing. The Cat & Fiddle in Hollywood is a nice bar restaurant to socialize at night especially on a summer night. Open in and outdoor fireplace seating, great atmosphere, live music.

Pick up the LA weekly and see whats going on there.

Have fun. The locals, like myself, who were born here are really cool!

Ha, I love our natives. They know what's up.

I'd add hiking in Angeles Forest (spec Eaton Canyon or Angeles Crest), Cinespia in the summer (movie and a picnic at the hollywood forever cemetery), check the Egyptian Theater showings, the Hollywood Bowl if you can make a show that you'd like. Orochon Ramen in Downtown LA has the best, biggest ramen bowls ever. Philippe's near Dodger stadium is the home of the original French dip sandwich (just don't show up wearing a Giant's cap- our town is colorful, not perfect)

Hope you are getting settled in and enjoying the California life. I'm afraid I can't help much with where to go or what to do where you've settled because I'm up in the north, myself. But ... if you ever decide to see the Golden Gate Bridge, well, then, you'll be pretty close.

I also rudely forgot to offer to meet up with/show around you or any other aspies that have come to my home city. I assumed it was implied.

In reference to the post above, would anyone be interested in meeting up one of these days?

This goes out especially to Alex, of course. I think several southland members would like to meet you.

possibly. i'm intimidated by that idea as much as i would like to meet some people on the board.

i'm likely to say i will maybe come and at the last minute have trouble with the idea and not go.

if someone does arrange an L.A. meeting though i would like it if someone would send me a PM about it.

Grisha (who posted a few pages back) and I live in different cities in south Orange County.

Like katzefrau, I would be interested in meeting in LA should it happen. Perhaps Alex can give a few dates here of when he's available and a meeting can be organized around it.

I live close enough to Los Angeles to say this-- if you don't have a job waiting for you here you're going to have a very rough time. Unemployment is over 12% and if you don't at least SOMEWHAT understand Spanish your chances of finding work are diminished even more. I've been here for over 3 years now and am consistently having to be overly-aware of people that's trying to take me for everything I have. I'm currently taking legal recourse against-- of all people-- the ex- actress Linda Blair for over six months of unpaid wages. California may be called the Golden State but I haven't seen any gold here..... The weather is great and the scenery is awesome-- a great place to visit if you can tolerate the aggressive nature of the natives. IT seems like everybody is scamming everybody. That's one thing I miss about Texas-- people there have quite a bit more integrity and aren't in so much a rush to do basically nothing.

Hi Alex

I wish you well on your journey and I think it is so great that you open yourself up to meet so many people :o) It jogged a memory for me- I was helping canvas for John Kerry and Capri Cafaro (in Ohio) for the 2004 election and I was chatting with a fellow volunteer. He must have asked what my future plans were and I said, "I want to wander around and talk to people." He just gave me a weird look that only went away when I told him I was studying poli sci at Kent State. Anyway, it is like what you are doing :o) Now that I'm feeling more at peace with myself I am remembering my old desires. You will be meeting so many people; you should have some interesting stories to share.
Who knows, maybe we'll meet one day- I'm a flight attendant so I can pretty much fly anywhere. I watched a few of your videos and one was at a conference- I think I'd like to start attending some of them. I suppose I could just google them, and I will, but since I'm already posting- any particular conferences or meetings I should take note of? Thanks for the website! Take care :o)

It's been two months. Have you arrived yet? When will we see those blogs and films?

Hey, I hope you're liking it there! I've been considering moving there someday because I have a passion for writing and I want to make that into a reality.

Keep us updated!

I'll be moving from Atlanta to San Diego at the end of this month, so count me in the "live in California and could possibly meet you" bunch.

How long before we declare Alex a missing person?

It has been ages since I compared LA to a runaway movie,

I check to find an update, and nothing.

He hasn't made a post in 45 days. I declared him a missing person already when I resigned.
