More recently (was it this year?) someone asked if I used the "bunny ears" method of tying shoes because I was left handed. I said yea, and then went to go look it up. I looked at it for a couple minutes, practiced for maybe 10 minutes, and now my shoes are always tied perfectly :D. Much better than how it was before.

I'm left handed too.

Lately I usually wear a pair of those shoes with the toes and those have velcro or moccasin style slippers that slip on. Tying is too much trouble. I used to have a pair of sandals I liked that slipped on and had elastic in the back but I haven't been able to find a replacement since they wore out.

I still can't do it right apparently as they often come apart and often I don't think I get the shoe to fit properly as far is tightness is concerned, it took along time to learn and I always just slip my shoes on to avoid having to tie them over and over again.

Couldn't tie my laces, school tie, never put my feet into my shoes properly always flatten the heels would get into trouble but kept doing it. Had difficulties with my left & right up to adulthood what has helped is learning to drive. I don't have to put my shoes together to make sure they are going on the correct feet.

Can't change a duvet drives me nuts adult meltdown. What I do find is that when I learn how to something I have to do it regularly or It will be like new to me again and I will have learn again this drives me crazy cause I know how to do it in my mind but it doesn't happen easily.

I guess it took me longer than it did for other kids. I don't know that I was more than two standard deviations away from the mean, though.

According to my wife, I'm very slow at it.

I never knew how to tie my shoes until first grade. My gram ma took 5 minutes to show me step-by-step how to do it and ever since then. I have never had a problem tieing my shoes.

Hmm, interesting. It took me a LONG time to learn to tie my shoelaces or any kind of knot. The most difficult part was what order to do what. But once I got the hand of it, I didn't forget the order.

I think I was five or six when I learned to use the bunny ear method. However, it usually took me time to get it done, so I preferred velcro till I was something like 11 or 12. Nowadays I can do them pretty fast using the bunny ear method.

I actually did, they wouldn't seem to stay tied, and so I preferred shoes with buckles until I was in first or second grade. And I'm supposedly NT. :P

I didn't have trouble with other early learning things though. I could dress and take care of my own hygiene and feed myself and was advanced in language and math for my age.

I did.

I only learned to tie my shoe laces when I was almost 15 and my mother eventually managed to find a simpler way to teach me how to do it.

When I was in kindergarten no one has ever tried to teach me how to tie shoe laces.
In elementary school teachers taught me and my classmates how to do it, all my classmates learned it quite quickly and I was the onky one who still wasn't able to do it, but my teachers didn't care and didn't try to help me with it.

Now I can but it's still hard for me, and I still can't tie my shoe laces while standing, but only while sitting.

sadly, I have never got the hang of the 'proper' way of tying shoelaces, but luckily my mother found a method I could get the hang of.
She called it the "Bunny Ears" method.
As I got older she did make comment about me not tying my laces the "Adult way", but I've continued tying my laces like a child throughout my life. It's never given me any problem. :P

Yes but no one tried to teach me. Maybe that's something NT kids learn on their own? I have no clue but either way no one taught me for the longest time. In fourth grade the principal saw my untied shoes and knelt down and promptly taught me how.

I do not exactly remember at what age I finally was able to tie shoelaces but it was in my early teenage years. It probably took longer since I am left-handed. It is kinda sad but it is not a big deal.

I learned when I was either 7 or close to being 7. It was something that our school required so had to start learning pretty early. I couldn't quite get it from watching the teacher or other students so my parents got me a book about it. It took me awhile but I finally figured it out, or at least I think I did. They never seem to stay tied for very long and I still mess it up over half the time.

I remember it took me a long time to learn. When I got to the navy as a bos'n mate, I was really in over my head. Knots still befuddle me.

I didn't learn to tie my shoelaces or a necktie until I was at secondary school (age 12+). I also took a long time to learn to use a knife and fork properly and I didn't learn to ride a bike until age 22 (although I did stop trying between the ages of 10 and 22).

I never had problems with poor handwriting or being unable to draw though.

I'm reasonably deterous with my hands now and I honestly think that playing video games helped me develop my co-ordination (these weren't around until I was 12 or so).
