I categorize my obsessions into two distinct categories: primary and secondary. Primary obsessions are those that are deeply personal and feel are an extension of myself, and they usually come and go depending on a variety of circumstances. Secondary obsessions are those that aren't as personal but are something that I will take part in for long periods of time. More or less, secondary obsessions are just strong interests, and these too have seemed to come and go. As of recently, both primary and secondary obsessions seemed to hang around a few things.

Primary obsessions - In no particular order, cause I can't remember in what order they began -

(1) Bears
(2) Dogs
(3) Fish
(4) Whales
(5) Ocean Waves
(6) Fractions
(7) Wood
(8) Rivers (Latest and long-lasting)
(9) Schizophrenia
(10) Asperger's Syndrome (Latest)

Secondary obsessions - Again, in no particular order -

(1) Numbers, when younger I used to play with dice and number already-laid out floor tiles
(2) Chemicals, when younger I used to read chemical and drug books and study formulas and uses
(3) Coin Collecting, when very young I used to cut out and collect coin pictures out of coin books
(4) Makes and Models of cars, when young I used to write down makes and models of cars in parking lots
(5) Stamp Collecting, a short-lived preoccupation just before my teenage years
(6) Computers, a dominant and pervasive preoccupation through my later years
(7) WrongPlanet, apparently this site as of recently
(8) Socialist Politics / Economics, a dominant and pervasive preoccupation through my later years
(9) PrimeTime TV Shows / Movies, a more or less general preoccupation
(10) Metal / Hardcore / Hard Techno Music, I collect hundreds of obscure underground music recordings

There may be more, but there has been so many throughout my life that I have trouble remembering them all! I also like to write, which may be considered an obsession of sorts.

-Military
-Military during WWII
-Modern Military
-Eastern Front of WWII
-Tanks
-Aviation, especially experimental designs and the soviet/russian planes.
-Weapons (I like the assault rifles, and high rpm smgs in particular)
-Asperger syndrome itself :)
-Eastern Europe
-History of the USSR
-History in general (But specifically, post 1914)
-Video games :)
-Computers
-Horror films (A possibility, borderline obsession)

It's fairly easy to say that most of my obsessions correspond with military history.

Most of mine started as a child:

Maps, roads, road signs, road routes, etc. etc. (These have remained lifelong interests until now.)
Mathematics, as well as related things such as lists, indices, phone directories, weights and measures etc. (An interest vehemently discouraged by others and didn't persist beyond childhood, though I retain a head for figures.)
Dictionaries/words - Remains an interest now, although interest in the etymologies of the English vocabulary and in Webster's dictionaries has absolutely ballooned in the last year.

I guess I had more than a passing interest in public transport networks, especially bus networks, but this interest has 'ballooned' in the last few years.

Another current interest is Scottish and English non-league (soccer) football. The teams I back are non-league i.e. minor league teams.

I'm also obsessed with visiting supermarkets (using buses to get there :D ), and with their locations throughout Scotland, especially Sainsbury's stores.

And how can I forget AS as an interest, one that's recently become very intriguing and absorbing.

My obsessions frequently change, and I'll often rotate them, so I'll have several on the backburners while focusing on others. Here are some of my past and present obsessions:

- Dinosaurs (my first obsession I think, and one of my longest lasting one as it ran for years, and even now I still have to look at the fossils and models whenever we go to the museum)
- The phenomenon of feral children (I'm not so interested in this as I used to be, but it still interests me)
- Robots (again I don't spend all my time thinking of this anymore, but I still love seeing robots, and am ecstatic whenever there's something about robots on TV)
- Aliens
- Dragons (I'm starting to get more into this one again)
- Anime/manga (currently I'm obsessed with anime that was released in Britain in the early-mid 90s, when distributors were releasing all the adult anime such as Urotsukidoji and Fist of the North Star, and the media was calling for it to be banned. I'd never watch those titles, but they're fascinating to learn about!)
- Asperger Syndrome
- Psychology (other than AS, this isn't such a big deal to me anymore)
- Japanese and oriental culture and language (I'm really into this at the moment, to the point where even reading this thread, I found myself staring at Aylissa's avatar icon for a while... )
- Films, particularly obscure ones
- Wolves
- Androgenous men (I can't really explain this, I just love the whole concept! :P )

There are others as well, these are just the ones I can think of right now, plus I don't want to make the post too long. :P

My obsessions include/have included the following:

Samurai swords/knives (though I dont actually own any of these)
Designer handbags (I look for bags every day on ebay in futile hope of spotting something genuine LV, chanel, dior and the like)
Japanese culture (particularly architecture and fashion, kimonos, origami)
Random bloodfilled movies (kill bill, sin city to name a few, and thier soundtracks)
Internet
Shopping
TV shows
People such as classmates back in my school days
Video games (resident evil 1 to 3, silent hill 1, GTA3)
Puppies
Anime (not really focused on any cartoon, just going to animegalleries.net and getting pictures of angels and fairies etc.)
Tree climbing (when younger) while eating....
...Nutella sandwiches
WWE (was still called WWF when I was obsessed with it, our cable TV got cut off so my obsession faded)

:? :?

An unhealthy interest in concepts of social class, the overwhelming desire to find out "Where I stand" - I'll say middle just for the sake of argument - and other political issues like council housing (there is little such thing as affordable suburban housing where I live) and so on and so forth.

This is a funny thread. Somehow I didn't think that there were that many obsessions in the world. It kind of surprised me somehow that they were so different from mine!

My current ones:
knitting (I'm sure all you guys really want to try this one)
figuring out what is causing my son's hypotonia

Some former ones:
tennis
how children learn to read
Spanish

As a child:
lego
Michael Jackson (when he was also a child)
drawing ice cream

And these are my son's, who is 2 yrs old, but this is mostly all he has talked about for the last year:
Veggie Tales
sumo wrestlers
Thomas and Friends
"chi-chis"- he has to point them out on everyone

Somehow I don't think he will ever out-grow the last one.
