I categorize my obsessions into two distinct categories: primary and secondary. Primary obsessions are those that are deeply personal and feel are an extension of myself, and they usually come and go depending on a variety of circumstances. Secondary obsessions are those that aren't as personal but are something that I will take part in for long periods of time. More or less, secondary obsessions are just strong interests, and these too have seemed to come and go. As of recently, both primary and secondary obsessions seemed to hang around a few things.
Primary obsessions - In no particular order, cause I can't remember in what order they began -
(1) Bears
(2) Dogs
(3) Fish
(4) Whales
(5) Ocean Waves
(6) Fractions
(7) Wood
(8) Rivers (Latest and long-lasting)
(9) Schizophrenia
(10) Asperger's Syndrome (Latest)
Secondary obsessions - Again, in no particular order -
(1) Numbers, when younger I used to play with dice and number already-laid out floor tiles
(2) Chemicals, when younger I used to read chemical and drug books and study formulas and uses
(3) Coin Collecting, when very young I used to cut out and collect coin pictures out of coin books
(4) Makes and Models of cars, when young I used to write down makes and models of cars in parking lots
(5) Stamp Collecting, a short-lived preoccupation just before my teenage years
(6) Computers, a dominant and pervasive preoccupation through my later years
(7) WrongPlanet, apparently this site as of recently
(8) Socialist Politics / Economics, a dominant and pervasive preoccupation through my later years
(9) PrimeTime TV Shows / Movies, a more or less general preoccupation
(10) Metal / Hardcore / Hard Techno Music, I collect hundreds of obscure underground music recordings
There may be more, but there has been so many throughout my life that I have trouble remembering them all! I also like to write, which may be considered an obsession of sorts.
