I think if a person is going to commit suicide, they should make sure that they have tried other possible solutions to whatever problem causes people to want to die. If no better solution is available, I say go for it. Sure people will miss the person who has died, but I can honestly say that I could accept a person I care about committing suicide better than seeing them suffer endlessly for many years, without any solution available. The Abrahamic religions are a load of crap anyway and can't be depended on as a moral guide and there is no evidence to support their supernatural claims, so if a person is going to commit suicide, they should just ignore those garbage religions and their absurd holy books.
If you are likely to experience more suffering than happiness in the remainder of your life, then suicide is the rational option. The problem is, people are very poor at making rational judgements on such matters, with a plethora of common cognitive biases to impair their ability which are only intensified when feeling strong emotions.

Couldn't say it better.

Does it necessarily matter if predictions are off when measured? When pushed to such an extreme, does a slightly better outcome make a difference?
I guess it would depend on a case by case basis. These biases would be important for someone grieving over the death of a spouse for example, yet perhaps less important in a case where a person is suffering from something fairly chronic.
Very interesting to consider.
We don't know that for certain. We shouldn't even be here... until we know how we got here there's no way to tell what might happen after, even though biologically these bodies of ours will be over and done with.
I find this very interesting. What difference does it make if our consciousness is effectively deleted at the point of death? Perhaps none of our actions are of any consequence, ever.

I think it's important to remember that when people commit suicide, they are not thinking in their right mind anyway. Think about it, how many times have YOU heard about the person who committed suicide, how they just were not themselves in their final days? Like they were more distant and emotionless than usual?
When I was in junior high I thought about it all the time. Never carried through but thought about it constantly. I was in a bad state and was severely bullied, then going home to a family who didn't really understand me for me.
What is unnecessary is stigma, what is needed is love and acceptance of the person in question. So a person doesn't have to even consider it and even if they do, they have someone that can reel them back in with love. That's what's going get that person through until they can get onto the next part of their life, outside of the environment they were in, to establish a more positive outlook of themselves.
A person can call that person "selfish" or "coward" all they want, but that is not going to change the way they feel at all. If anything it'll make them more secretive about the way they feel. Which will make them more likely to commit suicide in the end.
A person instead of judging, can bear to think about removing their ignorance once in a while. The world will be better for it, and then people might not be afraid to tell others how they truly feel in order to get the support they need to get through the roughest spots of their lives.
I don't like this. It devalues the decision a person makes if we just say they weren't in their right mind.
Suicide is not immoral. It is really sad that so many people think others should SUFFER because they fear death or because "loved ones" will be hurt. So I should suffer so my "loved ones" don't feel "lost" "confudes" "guilty". No thanks. Even worse many people don't have loved ones and what about those that have abussive "loved ones" or were abandoned by them? Not everyone has possitive support.
I want to do my best to make sure I do it right the first time.

I agree with you Mishra. Suicide and life is two very individualistic topics. It is only you who can decide if you want to live or not, not others. It is your world, your consciousness, others are just Extras in your world. Technically speaking. And they should not decide your faith in this world. They should not matter, they aren't a factor.
But if you choose to die, you terminate your existence. You're gone. No more. Why would you do that? Aren't you worth more? Of course you are. You are worth the most in the whole world, because You are your Own consciousness. You don't know much about other's consciousness, you don't experience them. Only yours. You are the most worthy thing on this planet, you deserve to live somewhat more than others. (But use your mind, of course). You should not die. You should get help. Because that is possible. And you will FEEL LIFE, VITALITY AND WHY YOU ARE WORTH YOUR OWN LIFE. WE will help you, if we cant, don't be weak and give up. This is very important.

But who is to decide if a person should die or not when a person is incapable of choosing to have their existence terminated?
Incapable of choosing to have their existence terminated. Well. I don't know why one would need that capability. If you are talking about euthanasia, i.e. the person is handicapped and suffering, it is obviously up to the other people around him/her. I'm for euthanasia, I think there is a duty for people around someone who is suffering and faces no relief or betterment to try to fulfill that person's wishing. Developing those standards/criterias for euthanasia is also up to us, but that is another question.

I believe suicide is sinful, but its no different than any other sin, nor do I believe it is the unpardonable sin mentioned in Matthew 12. It is certainly against God's will, but I believe that it can happen as a result of a spiritual attack by a demonic force.
As a Christian I have grappled with this issue many times. On one hand, I dont know God's plan for the rest of my life, I dont know what Im called to do or if i even will have a calling. On the other hand, God knows what Im going to do at every turn. I know God does not like to see His children in pain.
One thing I dont understand is the social taboo. Like others have said, it happens to everybody. Mankind has always sought to be "in control" of every aspect of their life, why not the greatest aspect?
In a way, im a little surprised that Im still here, but then I realize, i lack the balls to actually take action.
Ive always said, when I go, I dont want a funeral, I want a party. I dont want people to cry for me, Im in an infinitely better place.

There's an unpardonable sin? Woah. Must be bad. What is it?
"I know God does not like to see His children in pain."
But hang on, isn't that what Hell is for? I thought that was the whole point.

So the god you believe in knows everything you will do before you were created, right? That would include every sin, so any actions you take or decisions you make would be predetermined, so you wouldn't have the free will to sin or not sin. How could suicide be against "God's" will? If he knows that suicides are going to happen and knows who will commit suicide, then the suicide has been planned. Being an omniscient god would also mean every rape, murder, every abusive relationship, every infection, basically everything bad as well as good would be part of the plan.
I would also disagree with the whole idea of "I know God does not like to see his children in pain." If that was the case, why torture humans forever, for doing actions that they were predestined to do? Even if our actions are not predetermined, eternal torture for not having faith, or for being imperfect, defeats that logic. There is nothing evil enough that anyone can do that would be deserving of eternal torture, except for maybe unjustly torturing other living beings forever.
If "God" really doesn't like to see us in pain, then why allow demons to exist? Why allow this Satan character you also believe in to live on the Earth and inflict whatever kind of suffering he wants on humans, as well as deceiving people into losing their faith? That makes no sense.
