I hear you. Some beautiful homes and building architecture in that area were forever destroyed after that storm. I lived in Baton Rouge from '00 until '02, and prior to me leaving, I paid one final visit to N.O., 35 miles south. It's hard for me to comprehend the damage that's happened since.

Biggest ones:

- Ranma 1/2 (as a child)
-The X Files (as a child as well)
-CSI (my current biggest obsession)
- Music (my everlasting obsession)
- Other obsessions like Harry Potter, seeing houses and apartments from the inside, the color purple (not the movie), and others I don't remember as of now.

Most of my obsessions are pretty short-lived, so I can't remember all of them.

Long-term:
--What people think of me
--Justice, innocence (especially crimes dealing with children)
--Unusual or rare things (rare genetic disorders, child prodigies, rare gems, etc.)
--Proper grammar and spelling
--Babies and pregnancy
--Music
--Cats (which is difficult because I'm allergic to them  )
--Organizing things into categories (but strangely, I'm never able to keep my room in order)
--Cleaning in general, esp. grease. I despise greasy substances with a passion.

Short-term:
--The Sims 2 (especially reading Legacy Challenge stories)
--Recycling
--Collecting daily crossword puzzles (but never actually doing them)

Former or on again, off again obsessions:
--X-Files and its lead actors
--theoretical physics (black holes, wormholes, alternate universes, quantum theory, etc.)
--Drawing
--Greek Mythology
--Collecting erasers (random, I know)

Several sub-categories... one obsession tends to lead to another...

Volkswagens.
RC cars.
Biofuels and fuel management systems, turbocharging, etc...
Electronics... car audio, computers, etc...
Tattoos.
Kraftwerk.
Blind Melon.
John Lennon.

And now you can add Asperger's to the list, too.

I love my kittahs, but I don't think I'd call it an obsession.

I'll almost always correct someone if they sing the wrong lyrics to a song, misquote things, use a non-existent word (irregardless is particularly annoying),provide misinformation (I was one of those kids that corrected the teacher),proper grammar, word usage, spelling... you get the idea.

*whistles*

Boy a lot of us were obsessed with the X-Files. You should have seen my room when I was in the 7th grade (1996-1997). My walls were covered in a mixture of Batman pics and X-Files pics . . . and the occasional ER pic lol. The great thing about Batman is that there's always something new to learn.

Same for the Autism Spectrum. Which is my current obsession now.

My strongest obsession is with numbers.

I can't stop thinking about numbers and equations. Even when I talk to people and when I type and when I think of how to talk and when I try to speak and say "Hello," and when I try to touch myself and when I try to go to sleep and when I'm playing with my cat and when I'm reading a book the numbers are always there bouncing around my head. It's hard to make them leave.

Add another one to the list. I've loved that show since I was eight (though I kind of lost track of it for about six or so years somewhere along the line), and I totally wanted Agent Scully to be my mom.
Currently I'm obsessed with a bunch of TV shows (The West Wing, MST3K, The X-Files; as mentioned previously, 3rd Rock From the Sun... and House, but to a lesser extent). I also have the slightly embarrassing tendancy to become obsessed with fictional characters. But that's all good.

Outside of the fictional realm (heh)... I spend way too much time doing things like memorizing capital cities and general geography stuff. I also am a bit obsessed with number patterns, and finding methods to multiply larger numbers in my head (I can do 12 times any three digit number faster than 6 times 8... it's quite sad, really).

Okay, I see there are a lot of Aspie cat people - is there a cat thread here, or can I start one? And if so, where's the best place to do it?

For a while I wanted to be a forensic pathologist in the FBI, like Scully. I still have fantasies of working for the FBI :).

It's funny that my parents actually started watching the show before I began, but then I kept on watching and recording every single new episode on VHS until about the 8th season. I even recorded some of Gillian Anderson's and David Duchovny's appearances on awards shows and entertainment programs. Let's see...I own the movie and the soundtrack, and once had an X-Files mousepad. Yeah, I was on an X-Files binge for a while.

I also own a "I Want to Believe" poster, which is hanging in my dorm room right now. Not that I believe in UFOs...

It really is a tie - numbers, equations, and music. I constantly have music playing in my head; whether it's a song that exists, or one that I write. Sometimes it can be extremely distracting, and once I actually had to hide tears because the music became very passionate. No voices...mind you, just music.

I don't know about my most intense one, but the most bizarre one was eggplants. I think I was 8 or 9.

Asperger's is definitely on my list of obsessions now. Ever since I learned about it randomly, I have spent every waking minute either researching it or thinking about it. It's been about three days now, I think.

Some other weird ones:

1. Mushrooms. They are the most amazing things on the face of the earth.

2. Tall buildings. I have a particular fascination with the Sears Tower and could stare at it for hours. I also like to know the exact measurements and how they compare to each other (i.e, Sears is the tallest in the US, Bank of America Plaza is the tallest outside of Chicago or NY, Bank of America in Chattanooga is the tallest building between Nashville and Atlanta). Really boring stuff for most people. Whenever the Bank of America is in view, I have to tell people the facts about it.

3. 'Top ten'-type lists. An example would be the top tallest buildings, top most populous cities in a certain country, or top deadliest diseases. Measuring things makes them fascinating. I suppose this list could count.

4. The movie 'The Ring' and the related franchise. I don't really know why. The cursed videotape especially fascinates me.

5. Hell.

6. Human sexuality.

7. Witchcraft (and related religions).

8. Goethe's Faust.

9. Random people I've met, and some I haven't. Some who don't deserve the space they occupy in my head. There seems to be no rhyme or reason to who I 'lock on' to.

So there you have it, an unsolicited trip through the dark recesses of my mind.
