The Funniest Thing a Shrink Ever Said to You
According to her, no. Because I hurt people due to my trauma; they hurt me only because I hurt them. And others hurting me because of their own issues does not count because they're not in therapy with her.
OH, OK! I GET IT! Your trauma prevented you from hurting them outside of hurting them because you have the trauma!
Note to people where English is not your first language. That last statement makes no sense because it is an interpretation of someone that doesn't make any sense!
Greentea,
You psychiatrist sounds like a real kook! Has she driven anyone insane yet?
Honestly? One of the string of child psychiatrists my kids have been treated by... (HMO's tend to lose specialists willing to put up with their crap repayment):
In response to something she said with all seriousness, "My Boss is a carpenter!! With God all things are possible!!"
I got cold chills of terror from that... come to think of it she wanted me to dose my kids up on megadoses of vitamins WAAAAY past the USDA maximum... we didn't comply. Later that center went bankrupt, and was bought by a "Christian Mental Health Service". Thankfully, we don't have to go back there, they don't do business with our HMO. Frankly I consider their title an oxymoron.

She misunderstood her lessons in college. She doesn't really understand what it means to "take responsibility in an interaction with another person". She thinks it means that I have to take responsibility for how others choose to treat me.

Greentea, I read this whole thread, and your therapist enrages me. I'm serious here. It doesn't matter if you are as bad as she makes you out to be (and you seem pretty nice and normal to me), she should NOT be telling you that all your problems are self-caused because you are an aggressive and mean person. She should be helping you feel better about yourself and learning ways to cope, rather than putting you down constantly.
She should be paying YOU for putting up with her crap! I would have walked out long ago.
Enraging is the best way to describe her, yes.
Therapist: ...see the love in the world...blah blah
Me: I don't see much love in the world at all
Therapist: What? You think all the married couples around you don't love each other?
Me: It depends on what one's definition of love is
Therapist: There's only one definition of love, Greentea
Me: No, you and I have different definitions of love, so there are at the very least 2.
Therapist: (sighs, rolls eyes and changes subject)
*
Me: I can't deal with social politics, in the family and at work, I'm useless at it and it causes me much anguish
Therapist: There's no such thing as social politics, Greentea
Me: Since you say you're not computer literate, maybe you'd like to check the topic of social politics at the public library and see if it exists?
Therapist: (rapidly changes the subject)

Me: Could you give me a couple examples of why you think I'm too aggressive? Because I don't think I'm more aggressive than the average person...
Therapist: Well, I don't have any examples...but you were an abused child, and abused children have lots of resentment, so you have to be too aggressive.
Me: After my 28 years of therapy, and having worked on myself so much, couldn't I have become a more compassionate person instead of more aggressive?
Therapist: No

WOW, she IS stupid! Most married people DON'T really love one another. Go to courts, watch films, game shows, look at police records, look at stereotypes. Politicians marry to improve chances(I think EVERY president and most if nbot all politicians are MARRIED), Criminals marry people to limit risk, People marry to get insurance, possibly get money, lower taxes, homosexuals marry to look straight, some marry aliens to keep them in the country, some straight people marry out of peer pressure. I think about 50% of people are supposed to be married. MANY married before 25years of age. I really wonder HOW many married out of real love. It may not even be 10%!
BTW Social politics= 266,000 links in google. A bunch of indians laughed at my use of the term Corporate politics! Google only has 94,500 links for that. It is an OLD term! How could ANYONE not know this after going to college or being in an office!?!?
And she PRETENDS to help you with AS when your MAJOR problem is likely "Social politics", and she doesn't even acknowledge it exists!?!?!?
Therapist: Well, I don't have any examples...but you were an abused child, and abused children have lots of resentment, so you have to be too aggressive.

WOW! he way I was treated, I should be ripping people off left and right, and murdering a lot of people. Yet I NEVE even THOUGHT about shooting a gun at someone! I ALSO never ripped anyone off.
Then again, you DID say she was christian(SMALL C)! Some of them figure you can't have love, respect, honor, ethics without being christian.
If you ever happen to enter into such a conversation again, ask them what the point of their help is then.
I mean all they are trying to do is gleabn ideas from you. OBVIOUSLY you ALREADY know the problems, and the context, because otherwise they CAN'T! In the end, YOU have to act! So how could there interpretation make such a sure failure a success!?
I agree with you word by word. And she does too. She just wears her shrink hat and pretends the world is a perfect place, because it's her (wrong) idea of how to bring me to take responsibility for anything bad that happens to me in interactions. If the world is full of love and there's no social politics and everyone is nice and loving, then I'll have to take responsibility for anyone abusing me and I'll be willing to "work on my problems", which for her means becoming a submissive sheep, letting anyone get away with anything and licking my wounds in private. Many if not most therapists are not there to help you, they're there to ensure you don't disturb the powers that be. Yes, they'll help you to a certain extent, but if you become "too healthy" (and discover and denounce society's game) they'll try to make you shape up and go back to your sheep status. They're more committed to the status quo than to your sanity/success. Frances Palmer was too healthy for the mental health profession.

That's a pretty horrible thing for a mental health professional to say. He/She should be ashamed.
It's a weird thing to say, but day after day I'm more convinced of the fact that this shrink has their own issues.

Sometimes a shrink can be perceptive. It's rare, but it happens. Sometimes a shrink can also say stuff that's facetious - that's less rare - and does happen - a lot.
Sometimes shrinks think that they're perceptive. It's not that rare, but it happens. This tends to annoy patients very much.

It sounds like a codependent relationship.
So, why are you still with her?

The worst thing was what a mental health professional DIDN'T say to me: he diagnosed me with schizoaffective disorder AND DIDN'T TELL ME. Ten years pass (ego strength was not my strong suit back then) and he retires- and I'm referred to a schizophrenia clinic, where everyone is really, really confused as to why I'm not showing symptoms. Of course, I'm praying it IS schizophrenia, because then I'd have a name for what I got- though I'm relieved when the extremely caring staff (as opposed to uber-quack and his battery of superfluous medications) discover I'm just a well-meaning aspie and creature of cinema. You wonder how some people get their degrees.
Some people go to university to learn, others just to get a qualification. They promptly forget everything right after the exams. Unfortunately the whole education system tends to favor them, as they don't complain about crap courses, and are happy to pay for a piece of paper with someones signature on it.

My neuropsychologist is one of the only doctors I actually enjoy seeing. He knows what he is talking about, and he explains everything.
When he tested and diagnosed me, I was given an I.Q. test. I scored really, really low compared to my actual intelligence. At least 70 points below.
He said, "Well, it makes sense. You didn't like the girl who tested you. She made you uncomfortable because she scored certain sections incorrectly, and...she's not good at what she does. Or we could just say that people make you stupid."
I laughed for a very long time. It was fantastic to have someone on my side, for once. ![]()
