Does anybody hate their own race?

GOD, I wonder how many of THEM checked THEIR ancestry! When I was a kid, MANY whites had some german ancestry. It was over 10% of the whole US! If that held true today, that would be 30 MILLION people, or enough to populate like 1.5 states the size of New York! And, even with all the bad, the world would have been very different without the Germans. I don't know about YOUR family, but apparently mine moved before either world war.

There ARE some people in africa that have committed heinous acts against blacks in other tribes. So don't always assume the grass is just greener. As irma bombeck would say, the grass is always greener over the septic tank!

I am caucasian, but I always say I'm Cherokee (at least a 1/12 anyway.)
To me whites have always been particularly scary and xenophobic. I've learned from personal experience that minorities have more under their belts about suffrage and indifference from the group perspective. Whites have always played the "reindeer game" treatment to me. Everytime I've had a shrink that was a minority, they and I have always achieved a higher level of success. I wish it wasn't that way, but it is.

Racism is racism, no matter what skin color you're talking about, and just because I don't consider "white" to be my foremost identifier doesn't mean I have to despise myself for it either.

So as an answer to the question, no, I don't hate or feel shame for my race or any ethnic group I might belong to. People of said groups might have done bad things, but have done good and valuable things as well. And I am me, and I can choose to do good things rather than bad things independent of my skin color or ancestry.

About all the general misanthropy in this thread - I like humanity as a concept and overall; I often don't like society, or at least its execution; and I generally find myself liking people as individuals once I get to know them. I don't know what that makes me. However, I have no illusions about nature being wonderful and caring and perfect - I know full well that if I hadn't been a human, amongst other humans, I would be dead. Besides, I like having a mind that can conceive of things beyond instincts and continued survival. I certainly think aspects of humanity are bad, but we have so much capacity for good, and just the capacity for the recognition that some things are evil (allowing us to refrain from doing them even if we want to), that I couldn't possibly condemn the entire species.


WELL SAID! And you DO have to wonder about white teachers that make such wholesale statements! If they were like the stereotypical SciFI robots, like the robot society on the classic startrek, they would BLOW UP! I mean if the thought has to be eradicated, and all people that are white think that way, and THEY are white, then THEY must be destroyed, RIGHT!?!? (I'm referring to like the time when spock told a female robot that he loved her, and another that he hated her, and they basically shut down asking their community brain to reconcile how spock could feel so different about two things that were identical.)

I take it the avatar isn't you then? As for "reindeer game"(assuming you mean the treatment like the song about rudolf where it basically says he is left out), don't we ALL see that!?!?!? Some BLACKS here have said BLACKS treated them that way. I know JEWISH people are treated that way. ARABs are! Hispanics are! Asians are! I suspect EVERYONE is! And yep, *I* am! I can't blame whites though, because I know others are the SAME WAY! They have TOLD me! I have SEEN it! I EVEN managed to be on the INSIDE of some cultures, and have seen it FIRST HAND! BTW I have also heard CANDIDLY how they felt about whites and other people, so I know more about it than most would suspect.

And I am not apologizing, or saying it is right.

Look, all I'm trying to say is, I've had better relationships
with different ethnicticities then I've had with whites, K?
My ability to talk to other races is completely different then talking
to say a white person. Sorry, but it's true.

^^^Honesty's worth a bit of trouble, glad many here are. Makes me feel better, can open up around here.

Anyway, I really don't my race, or any other. People on about stereotypes drive me nuts. Never met a person that met the "stereotype" so screw that.

I hate the fact that I'm half this and half that and quarters all around. Got lot of European, got some Mexican, and a great grandmother who was full blood Cherokee if I remember correctly.

I hate the "stereotype" of race! white trash (redneck coutry fishing/hunting etc.) Blacks (gangs thugs robbers killers they're in jail etc.) Latino and others (came from across the border illegal immigrant stealing money from the government etc. Yes some of these types of people are bad but there ARE good people of different race backgrounds!! ! Not every Latino etc. came from Cuba,Mexico etc. and if you are that race and MADE something of yourself! (Doctor,Lawyer,teacher etc.) then I have no problem with you IF you are the stereotype then that's wrong I do respect people of different race in a specialized field I HATE the stereotyped people. I also think it's odd to say a Black/White couple I'm sorry but this is what I was raised to believe I'm sorry if I offended anyone but I don't see PURE STEREOTYPE as my parents do and see that there ARE GOOD PEOPLE AMONG DIFFERENT RACES!

a year + ago i lived in lakeway texas, surrounded by white people. it freaked me out (and i'm white). now i live in a town that's mostly hispanic, and most of the rest of the people are black, and i'm so much more comfortable here (and i'm white). white people are creepy when they're in the majority. they're so uppity.

It's the white anglo saxon protestant type of white that is the most uppity pain in the ass. Everybody else is easier to deal with. At least that's been my experience.

Well I am white, I kind of hate the fact that my race seems to be so powerful in that I watch tv and most of the people are white, most movies I watch are white, that most of the people I went to school with were white. I cant help but feel guilty by the fact that others must feel that society is ran by these people in a lot of ways, I don't like the idea that white males seem to be in so many of the power jobs. As it would be so much more worthwile for someone of the minority to achieve high.

You're also a native English speaker, in a predominantly "white" English speaking nation. Of course it would seem like that! Just like, in Arabic nations, Arabs, speaking Arabic, dominate the media.

If I didn't know better, I would say neither of you could be white. I have had trouble with whites also BUT:...

1. A person at a mcdonald's in LAX couldn't speak english, didn't know the names of the few items mcdonald's sells(even ones sold for over 30 YEARS), and wouldn't even tell me! EVEN if she told me in her native spanish, I would have understood. Her SUPERVISER had to explain!

2. A person at a wendy's, who was fluent in english, asked the person BEHIND me what he wanted, in spanish! Apparently, I am not the only one that has happened to!

3. People in south central stared at me and a friend there because we were white! I simply took my friend to see her black friend. Her BLACK friend was afraid to leave and showed us the bullet holes around her door to indicate why! They were there from BLACKS! She was BLACK, in a primarily BLACK area, and she feared for her life because of BLACK gangs. GRANTED, there are places where whites may be the same but, luckily, that is pretty rare. There is a LOT of black on black crime. In fact, in areas where nearly everyone is poor and black, the stores end up moving out because of theft and vandalism, at least in southern california.

And HEY, it is no secret how some moslems are with non moslems.

I have been mistreated by nearly everyone, even people that never knew me AT ALL. Hey, I HAVE had friends(For here, I describe friends as people that liked and complimented me, that I liked and helped out)! Even black, chinese, japanese, arab(One I knew even spoke arabic and was moslem!), jewish, and mexican. I even have some japanese cousins. I'm not crazy about their mother(my aunt), but she is HEAVILY japan centric. I like THEM though.

As for whites being creepy, maybe they were all part of a single group and creepy because of THAT, almost like ooOoOoOAnaOoOoOoo said she does better with her ethnic group!

And in the US, whites don't necessarily "CONTROL" the media. There is even a channel BET(controlled by/for blacks). Telemundo, and others for spanish, etc.... And as for the "white" ones? They usually DO have others on. Oprah got her start on "am chicago". I doubt that was targeted towards blacks, and she has done well for herself. GRANTED, she is now targeted towards females. The format is targeted towards females. Then again, as a group, females haven't done badly either! AND, for the record, I HATE phil donohue! Oprah is FAR better! Bill Cosby got HIS start on "white" stations! HECK, he even played as one of the main characters on "I spy"(1965). He created several cartoon shows(around 1972). ALL on "white" TV! Michael Jackson(As the youngest member of the Jackson 5) got HIS start on "white" shows! BTW Bill Cosby was NEVER demeaned on any of those shows. Not even on the 1965 show. I doubt Oprah was either. The Jackson 5 weren't.

And when I went to junior high and highschool, I couldn't even say MOST of the people were white! And that was like 30+ YEARS ago! Oh well, about half WERE female, outside of the 1 year in a boarding school.

you have a hard time believing i'm white because you got bad service at two different fast food restaurants, and because you have this weird notion that black people are all violent murderous vandalizing thieves? huh. if i burned a cross for every time i got bad service at a fast food restaurant...

i'm curious. i've known many many islamics. a few weren't very nice people, but they were that way with everyone. actually, the two not very nice pakistani islamics i've met were especially not nice to the indian islamics around them. so, in your own personal experience, how are some muslims with non muslims?
