That would be a good idea Tahitiii. I really don't know how much Autreat costs. I would guess you could get 400-500 dollars tied up in it??? Does anyone know the cost? When you mention a Woodstock type of thing, it becomes like a campout. That makes me think of finding a campground somewhere and reserving sites (like at a state park). Any suggestions on this?

Autreat 2009 would probably be out of the question for me. Airfare would be a dent in the checkbook most likely, and even driving would likely be two days (approx. 18 hours according to RandMcnally.com) each way.

I am open to doing something like a weekend camping retreat. As would my dog, most likely - assuming no one would be completely freaked out, of course. I have a 9 x 12 tent that can sleep 4 pretty well, and 6 if people don't mind being really cozy...

Location is going to be the big thing for me, though. But I would enjoy being able to put a face to some of the names.

Autreat 2009 registration fees
====================
These are the fees for people who are registering for all four days of
Autreat, including four nights' lodging in standard 2-person residence
hall rooms, and all meals from dinner Monday through lunch Friday,
registering by June 1, 2009:

Fee category A, Adults with full-time jobs: ANI members $430, non-members $450
(We realize that not all full-time jobs are high-paying. If you can't
afford this rate, add a note explaining that, and you may register at
the category B rate.)

Fee category B, Adults without full-time jobs: ANI members $375,
non-members $395

Fee category C, Youth ages 12-17: ANI members $375, non-members $395

Fee category D, Children ages 6-11: ANI members $255, non-members $275

Fee category E, Children under 6, occupying a bed in a room with one
other family member: ANI member $195, non-member $215

Fee category F, Children under 6, occupying a portable crib or cot or
other bedding brought by the family, in a room with two other family
members: ANI member $95, non-member $115

Fee category G, Adults living on disability or public assistance: ANI
member $230, non-member $250

Fee category H, Full-time support people attending to assist someone
who otherwise would not be able to attend: ANI members $210,
non-members $230 (If the person needing assistance in order to attend
is an ANI member, the support person may register at the member rate
too.)

After June 1, all those fees will increase by $10.

Also, there will be a $25 deposit for each room key issued. The
deposit will be returned if you turn in your key before you leave.

If attending days only, and not staying on campus overnight, subtract
$25 per person per day.

If making your own meal arrangements and not eating meals provided by
Autreat: Subtract $27.50 per person per day for ADULTS and YOUTH;
subtract $13.75 per person per day for CHILDREN 6-11; no fee
adjustment for children under 6. (Children under 6 are not charged for
meals in the first place.)

These rates are for lodging in the standard residence hall
accommodations: a bedroom shared by 2 people, in an apartment
containing 3 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, a kitchen, and a lounge.

To have a bedroom all to yourself in one of those standard apartments,
add $25 per person per night.

To have a private bedroom that also has a private bathroom (in a
different building), add $40 per person per night.

For people who are staying on campus overnight and attending only part
of Autreat, not the full four days/nights, it gets messy. I know the
following is confusing. If you're planning to attend for only part of
the time, and to stay on campus overnight some night but not all four
nights, you can contact me privately about your fees.

Basically, if you reserve the standard shared room, you'll have to pay
for it for all four nights of Autreat. Even on the nights you're not
there, if your roommate is still using the room, ANI is going to get
charged for the room.

If you and your roommate are both there for the same nights and both
gone for the same nights, or if there's another part-time registrant
who can use the same room on the nights you're not using it, then I
can adjust your fee so you only pay for the nights you use.

But for most part-time attendees, unless you arrange to share a room
with a friend or family member who's arriving and leaving on the same
days you are, you'll most likely end up having to pay for the room for
all four nights.

If you only need a room for one night, then it will cost you less to
reserve a private room for just one night, than to pay for a shared
room for four nights.

The ANI membership fee is, to quote the '08 form:
"Add $15 (for residents of North America) or $20 (for all other
countries) to total."
The ANI fee is on a per-household basis, meaning only one person in
the household would pay the ANI fee.

Pennsylvania is too far from me as it might be for anyone south or west of Illinois. I'm sure Autreat has good reasons for having their event in Pennsylvania. Another meetup, other than Autreat, would be great. From Oklahoma to Iowa, or anywhere in the middle, would be fine.

If the travel expenses were covered, and I had unlimited Chinese food, I'd love to come. :)

Thought this thread should get the bump.

KenG has provided [above] comprehensive information about the Autreat meet in Bradford Pennsylvania June 29 - July 3.

It would be great if someone would care to organize another meet in the States for late spring, summer or early fall....however, that someone isn't me. I would definitely consider helping though..

Thank you alba for bumping up the thread. I would love to come to this---and I am the one that started this thread---but since our vacation is right before the retreat, I am not sure how my finances are going to be. But I haven't ruled it out.

You're welcome, glider18.

Maybe you could keep an eye on the thread and bump it once more when it starts lagging. Be nice if it was made into a sticky.

I can't attend Autreat and was hoping someone would volunteer to organize another meet...doesn't look like that is going to happen.... :(

There should be one in Toronto.
I would have organized one, except that I don't have much experience with attending any gatherings of that sort.
Toronto is like a huge black hole. So many people here, yet not a single independent group for aspies except for the ones for which you need a dx in order to get in.

I'd be interested in attending a WP gathering... in Phoenix or within a couple hours drive. I'm not big on traveling further. (And I wouldn't want media coverage.)

I think that trying to organize one big WP gathering is an excersize in futility. I think that organizing several gatherings indifferent areas might be a better idea.

I agree with notbrianna, breaking it up would be good. I'd only go if it was in the nearest major city, which, for me, is Seattle. And if a badge/pass/ticket/whatever was inexpensive. Like, not $300. :B Just a basic gathering with some basic talks or whatever would be the part that would interest me, so I'd be happier to save the money and do without all the frills mentioned on the website for that Autreat thing.

Lordkristov: OOH, camping, yes, I totally second this. Cheap and fun. I'd love to do a camping thing. But I'm totally not in Oklahoma, so I wouldn't be able to go with you, specifically. D:
