Does any one have sudden spurts or moments of "clarity" or of the feeling like you have to get things done, and you're all enthusiastic about getting places, and then it just goes away after a while? You get all excited about trying to get something you've always wanted, and then you just lose interest in it a few hours/days later and go back to the same routine?

Yeah. Get all enthused, in a motivated "Get it done" attitude. Then reality sets in and motivation just disappears.

Yep, big time.

I woke up with a head of steam and I thought today was going to be productive, it lasted for about 45 minutes and then it was gone. I haven't done sh*t since.

This crap happens all the time.

Something about self-talk?

I read something recently, I forget what or where.
It might have been related to executive function.

That other people know how to talk themselves into stuff and encourage
themselves and keep going, but that Aspies aren't good at that.

well, I get all fired up and ready to go! I have an Aries Moon and a Scorpio Sun and I get fired up and ready to go. I get a bee in my bonnet and an idea in my head and I will pack up all my furniture, cat and tow my car behind the UHaul truck and drive from Minneapolis to Waldport, Oregon on a whim and a heart ache looking for comfort in the fixations of my childhood. Then I sorta get over the obsession and there I am. . .in Waldport.

Sometimes it takes me years to recover after the really big adventures. . :(

I have days when I can get things done, and the ability to do things causes enthusiasm.

Yes i know what you mean, and after the feeling disappears i have to force myself to finish whatever i started. It's a nice feeling to have though, probably the only time when i actually do feel like i have achieved something, if i can finish it.

I have a tendency to do this with non-special interests. For instance, if the house is a mess, I put aside an evening and just clean the bejesus out of it. Then it kind of goes to hell over time, and then eventually I clean the bejesus out of it again.

We've tried the "just take 10 minutes every day to clean" and it just doesn't seem to work.

yup.
I get super enthusiastic and all life is great etc. but it never lasts long.

And usually I do something stupid during those bursts of yayness.
E.g. I had the idea to make some awesome artwork wit electricity cables... but it didn't work out...I never finished it/researched it enough..
so...now I'm left with around 50m of random colours of cable...and I have NO idea what to do with it now:p

Very rarely i have a weird moments where i realise if i were to play counterstrike: source immediately, i would play at the skill level of a god and run around stabbing everyone in the back with knive while taking no damage. It's fun while it lasts, it rarely lasts long :(

I can relate to this!

I'm like this with cleaning, especially.

I'm the exact same. Taking 10 minutes just irritates the hell out of me, I would rather set aside a day and do it all at once then forget.

I'm the exact same too with non-special interest activities. I have to bully myself into so much as focusing, even if it's urgent, and usually about 5 minutes later I'm dwelling on special interests instead.
