Telepaths
I don't understand much about telepathy, but I've had a few experiences with it in life. It's a real phenomenon. The other day I went to renew my drivers licence and you have your photo taken so I just tidied my hair in the car rear view mirror before I went in and I had it in a pony tail. So....I'm at the counter with the clerk and we've done the paperwork and it's time for me to step in front of the screen for the photo and I distinctly felt the thought Take your hair out of the pony tail and shake it. I dismissed the idea imediately because, I'd already decided in the car to go with the pony tail, so I just shrugged off this wierd idea, then it comes back again, really clear and more insistent, Take your hair out of the pony tail and shake it, sorta like a shampoo ad or something, so I thought huh? and I strongly thought back, NO, gawd I'm a middle aged woman, that's ridiculous and the clerk said to me" "What did you say?" and realised it was coming from her, they were her thoughts, like telepathy. "I didn't say anything" I said and she looked slightly taken aback.
Am I crazy or do others get this stuff. I've had this opinion for a while that psychopaths are telepaths, they put an idea in your head and 'push' it, and you may think it's your own idea....
Nothing like that for me, personally, the closet I suppose I've ever come to that kind of experience is saying the same sentence as my partner at the same time, inadvertently, but I think that comes more from us knowing each other very well after 12+ years together.....
Only voice I ever 'hear' in my head is my own, although there have been so many times when I wished I could hear other people's internal dialogues so that I could better read and understand them.
Postperson this happens to me about once or twice a week. I'm not kidding. The only kind of telepathy I've had is where I pick up thoughts that other people are thinking about me, not about anything else. I'm wondering if it is a skill that can be honed, a potentially very useful one?
I've also had premonitions and precognitive dreams though, so I'm guessing my brain is structured differently from most people's or something.
What you described sounds more like your own subconscious overriding your conscious decision to wear the ponytail. It's also more likely that you muttered the "gawd I'm a middle aged woman..." line subvocally rather than just thought it, so the clerk could sorta hear it.
That's a lot more likely than telepathy. Besides, I don't think clerks care in the slightest how people look in their ID photos.

Hear, hear. It's amazing what people can believe in.

I coexperience people's feelings telepathically. I posted some of this on another thread. I often can feel when someone I know, or have become familiar with the feel of their vibe, is reading something I wrote. I sometimes also feel the emotion they are experiencing in response to my words. Like Chawieman said, it's only when the person is thinking about me that I perceive it. And Janissy, I have validated my experiences, by IM'ing the person whose emotions I am feeling from, so I can ask her if she is also feeling what I am feeling from her. I have done this with many different people on several occasions. I also offer to send to people, those who can feel me, on occasions where they will be facing a situation that they are anxious about. I send them a feeling of calm confidence that I have created in my imagination, and they coexperience my calm feeling.
When I become prevy to a person's thoughts, I don't experience them in words. They get translated to the form that my mind thinks in, namely pictures and inner knowing. I have done experiments with online friends who were also telepathic. The friend thought in words, and I think in pictures. She would send to me in words, and she told me what she sent, but I always received her thoughts in image and inner knowing. And when I sent her my thoughts in image, she would tell me the words she got from me. Her words always had the same meaning as my thoughts, but I, to my knowledge didn't send to her in words.
I have an online friend who is visually impaired. She can see somewhat. With coke bottle lenses she can see up to 5 feet away. But she can receive images from me. I have shown her the view of a night sky on a clear night on a mountain top. I sent her a memory. I have shown her what a 747 looks like in flying across the face of a thunder cell at sunset, and other memories of images she will never be able to look at herself. And she has shared with me a picture of her friend's guide dog, and some of her memories.

A case of observer bias. What about all the times things happened and you did NOT get a Hot Flash. Or all the times you got a false premonition. And what about all the times you read body language. That is normal sensory input, not telepathy. Under laboratory conditions, telepathy is never found. Forget Rhine and and his cards, by the way. He rigged his tests and his so-called statistical proofs of telepathy are bogus.
There ain't no such thing. The amount of electrical energy produced in the brain cannot penetrate the skull bone.

I wasn't seeking the James Randi Society opinion, that's obvious.
...anyways, I wonder if it's partly the 'sponge' like nature of some types of autism, that you pick up too much from the environment. In the case I cited though, it seemed deliberate. I think that may be how sociopaths/psychopaths get people to do their bidding. The clerk definitely looked disappointed and surprised that I hadn't complied with her wishes!
