I'm not a gambler myself, but if one were to think about it for a minute, it might even be possible an aspie could be good at poker.

Why?

Because, after all, we don't readily recognize facial expressions. We can have that blank stare throughout much of our lives. We could fool lots of poker players this way, thus we may be able to rake in big bucks quite intuitively. When a poker player is looking for specific facial expressions, here comes this aspie who just has this blank stare. Poker players would have trouble telling whether or not an aspie is using a poker face or not. There could arise a problem, of course, when it comes to reading other people for that poker face. Though, because we're so poker faced much of the time, it may not even be ultimately necessary. Our stature alone could win the game over. At least, it seems a bit that way to me, but then again ... I've never played poker.

I'm good at most forms of card game, actually. I have a nack for beating people at poker, and more often than not, I'm the one with the most money by the time the game ends.

Do not know if it has anything to do with Asperger's Syndrome, though. Maybe we are good at finding patterns in the cards? Along with the numbers and match-ups that can make up different hands.

My husband plays a lot of poker, and he's always trying to get me into it. He swears that I would be great at poker because as he puts it, I am "the hardest person in the world to read."

Being an Aspie doesn't really make you better because eventually someone will see a pattern in your body language. Example, you might give off a different set of signals when you are bluffing and when you are not.

The best thing to do is go through the exact same movements and signals no matter wha the situation.

But eh, a tough game. :P

That's pretty common knowledge in poker. It is the player's responsibility to not be so obvious on things like that.

I do very well on card games. Although, when a certain game is new and the intructions are told to me, I pick up the pace. I am talking about like one snap, and I have it in my mind. All of the other people don't. Seems strange eh.

play online. That way all the vague facial stuff disapeers and is replaced by cold hard facts that can be directly observed & recorded for later analysis.

eg. a 'tell' online could be the no. of milliseconds it takes someone to make their move. Better still, at home on the PC noone will critizise you for running everyones moves through computer simulations/ probablility generators, consulting a huge library of statistical tables or having building up profiles on your opponents behaviour over several months ;)

Another thing, playing professionally its wise to watch the table before entering the game, to determine whether the environment is profitable. Especially against the house - If theres a lot of tight players, only the rake will win. This is something else thats more convienient at home becuase you can easily be monitoring several tables simultaneously, then pick the one with the weakest and loosest players.

In my experience...............No. I dont think we are more advantageous in skills required to play Live poker.

One of the hugest difficulties and most important aspects is "Bluffing". Bluffing is "Lying" essentially. If your not good at lying, which most people here I would assume aren't. I think we tend to play too straightfoward. That when It comes time to bet a BLUFF, its obvious that we don't have a credible hand, or a weird scenario pops up.

I've never played poker, but my dad has said he'll teach me (but that may not happen if Mum finds out, LOL). They played poker on Friends once, and I think I'll be good at it. I wanna totally pwn everyone at it and become under-14s gambling champion, LOL!

I play poker online sometimes, but i have never played in a casino, i think the rake is too high and its so crowded with people. Last week i made 5$ into 58$ on micro tables but then i lost most of it with AA :x

My husband is good at poker, and I imagine his aspie traits do contribute to that. I on the other hand, don't have those same aspie traits. (But I did get a much larger dose of clumsiness than him. :/)
