I clean offices and carry my supplies in the trunk of my car. Sometimes I open the trunk, take out the vacuum, look back in my trunk and think OMG where's the vacuum?
Anyone else this spacey?

Not really but I get bored easily and don't spend my time staring at things. I look at something and then I'm done.

It's because I'm so busy thinking Deep Thoughts, of course.

Very short, I can very easily forget what I was thinking and not hear what the person said.

I've never thought my attention span is short. I can focus on everything just fine and I find just about everything interesting. Never bored. The only time I don't feel this way is when I'm in trying to have a conversation with someone and I get so frustrated I yell or run off-- if that is the same thing.

Oh, all the time.

Worse still, sometimes I'll look in the fridge for something, and I can't find it ANYWHERE. Then I look on the counter, and there it is, still cold, as if I had just gotten it out. And I have absolutely NO memory of having gotten it out.

Yup. Or I'll be looking for a pen I just saw, only to realize it's in my hand.

Yes.
I once took my phone out of my pocket and put it on the table, got distracted, put my hand back in my pocket and said 'OMG! Where's my phone?'

I am horrible in math goes, but excellent in English and Social (political science, history, and economics) , I was able to concentrate better in the classes I did good in.I did horrible in math because I found it difficult to stay focused.I had the attention span of a flickering lightbulb when it came to math or physics or any other science.I passed math 20 pure (grade 11 higher acedemic math) with a grade of 53 but failed math 30 pure (grade 12 higher acedemic math), so I took math 30 applied (grade 12 remedial math) so I could get my diploma.I passed physics 20, mainly because the teacher had many after school help classes and I got the one on one help I needed.I found it easier to do the equations with someone standing by me and sorta coaching me through it.If nobody is around to help, I lose focus and go off into my own little world. The same went for math 30 pure...I kinda needed someone to babysit me through it or I'd lose my focus and go into my own little world.I ALWAYS HAVE STRUGGLED IN MATH, mainly due to my short attention span.

I also have a tendancy to forget to do something if I get distracted.I have forgotten where I put my coffee on several occasions. At work Id be trying to do many different things and will forget to do something.

Sometimes I'll get food out of the freezer, open the packaging, put it in a cooking dish, and then put it back in the freezer, instead of into the oven or the microwave.

Sometimes when I start cooking food I will put ingredients into a frying pan and start mixing the food and a few minutes later wonder why the food seems to be cooking so slowly and then realize that I didn't remember to turn the burner on.

Once when making some flavored rice, the instructions said to boil some water, add the rice and seasoning, and simmer for ten minutes with the burner on low heat. After leaving the food simmering for ten minutes I came back to the kitchen and realized that I had never added the rice to the pan and had just simmered the sauce.

These things sound awfully familiar. I am very absent-minded. However, if I am absorbed in an interest, I find it difficult to stop paying attention to it, even if, for example, I am very tired and have been trying for 3 hours to stop obsessing and go to bed.

back before I knew I was autistic, I used to marvel at the fact that I could watch a TV show I was intensely interested in and the moment the commercial came on I could not recall what show I was watching, what the plot was, who the protagonist or antagonist were doing or why.
nothing - zilch, nada.

I still do that if I think about it, only now my conscious mind knows I am autistic and so I just toss all my weird behaviour into that stack - I have no idea if it is a symptom of it, though.
