There has always been this huge difference between others memories and my own. It's what mine lack. People. I know I've discussed this before but it just keeps coming back to me. I remember the toys I had and what I did with them. I remember the configuration of my room, even my room as it was laid out when I was four. I remember getting countless skinned knees and spinning tricycle wheels. People do come into it my fifth year but not as people in that sense. In the sense that I know someone was there but I cannot even identify small things about them, whether they were male or female, whether they had black or blonde hair...Sometimes there are disembodied hands or more rarely voices. Around eight they become a little realer to me but they still are infrequent presences in my memory. People don't actually come in as such until my teen years and then it is still a gradual thing. And they still, for the most part, are extremely unclear. By the time I am eighteen in those memories I can see people as I can now in memory, where it is just the face that is unclear.

I was just wondering if anyone else experianced something similiar.

I just wrote a college paper on this subject. Honestly until recently I thought that every one thought and remembered things like I did. I too can remember details of things, room configurations from very young, toys, what I did with them etc. but not the people involved.
I attribute this to a different filing system in my brain. I also attribute this to my particular attachment to objects and not people.

I have talked to people or I would not know any different. It even puzzled my mother that I remembered toys I had at a time but not someone I supposedly knew at the same time.

Is your intention to cryptically brag about your 'autistic-infested' memory? To feel like you are 'in the ranks with all the top-rating aspies?'

If not, that is cool. I was just asking. But it might be nice to stop acting like you are "special"

I do remember making things in my childhood, and an aweful christmas at my aunts house. but thats it.
So Twitch you remember more than I do. :D

Steve Cory stop assuming so horribly about him. He's just curious if any one shared his same experience...or a similiar one.

:x I can’t remember people’s faces or names to save my life. I call most of my best friends by the wrong name all the time.

I have a quite good memory, especially when it comes to dates. My family members find me very useful because I always remember all the birthdays etc. in the family. I remember I was shocked when I learnt that other people don't remember everything from their childhood.

However, when it comes to remembering others' faces, it's nothing like this... sometimes I don't recognize a person I've known for years if I meet them at a different place than I usually see them. Can lead to terribly embarrassing situations. :(

My long-term memory for random useless facts is quite good, but I have trouble with short-term memory and also names/faces take me a while to get memorized.

I have memories of people from my younger years, usually different details, but these are not situation-specific memories. I have MANY more memories of things and animals than I have people. These by far are in the majority.
