Why can't we have an organization like ARC?
I'm trying to get myself signed up for medicaid and I'm trying to find a local organization that might be able to guide me through the paperwork. I'm hoping to qualify for an advocate through ARC, but looking through the websites of ARC compared with the local autism groups has me completely jealous! ARC's emphasis is completely on helping people with developmental disabilities achieve self-determination, and none of the local autism groups seem to be aware that autistic people still exist once they get older than about twelve. They're all focused on research and early childhood education. It seems weird that two movements that were both started largely by parents would have such different attitudes towards the people they're supposed to serve.
