I'm not sure what to expect. A bunch of questions?
Has anyone had one before?

since I'm in the US, I don't know if my experience will be similar. SSDI sent me out to a specialist for the assessment to confirm I have PTSD. she was very nice, and an expert on PTSD, not a general practitioner. she asked a bunch of questions and that was it.

good luck.

Thanks. It was relatively short but they need me back for an IQ test (at my request) and more in depth discussion about why I think I can't work.

Finding out topic

I had many forms to fill out, and later an interview with a caseworker to determine that my co-existing conditions :evil:were a stumbling block to employment. Proof of employment problems was obtained from former employers, reports form my GP and the psychologist who assessed my AS, and reports from college were submitted as evidence. After more than a year of waiting, my application was approved.

I am hoping the disability counselors will be able to assist with supported employment, at least part-time. :)

Good luck, pensieve.

If your Aspegers is towards the extreme end then yes get tested and see how it goes, however there are a lot of us that are in the workforce and have learned to cope and adapt. Please look deeply into what it is that you may be doing wrong in your interactions with NT's and learn to adapt there are many tricks that can help you deal with them. Or get into the IT world believe me there are lots of people like us. Depends where you are on the spectrum I score very highly on the tests as to being nearly autisitc but I have adapted have a child and are married. This may have to do with the fact my generation had no choices but had to learn social norms.

I've tried to get work but it just isn't working out. I have limited IT knowledge, and failed at IT business studies and coding.
I can't really work many hours. I get too exhausted.
The jobs that go in my town involve a lot of social interaction and a bubbly personality.

Mine was just like any other meeting with a psychologist.

Why can't you work? Was answered with, can't handle being around people, and can't do anything else but focus on my single interest; go Hulk Smash when I can't focus on my interest or when people are around me. The truth, and it was enough.

Funny [or sad] story, said psychologist said she became one to help her daughter who has AS; she said she can't help her....

Yeah, I dont know what I will do with my future.. I sort of need huge amounts of stimulants to focus at work and then I am a stressed-out freak from the effort, work to me and a routine are poisonous, im pretty weird. The only way around this I think is to take ritalin, but no way.

Anyway good luck. Im sure it will go ok. And any way you may be able to work again some day, or find some work from home....

Guess you could say only very few jobs will work out for you and breathing space is needed if you are ever going to find one that you can handle.
