I've noticed that when I'm watching tv or watching other people have conversations, I'll mimic their facial expressions. Usually I'll do this when I see a really obvious facial expression, like anger or frusteration. Does anyone else do this? This may be why I have less trouble understanding facial expressions than some of the people on this forum. Are there any people who do this and still have trouble reading faces? I do it with myself too. When I feel my face make an expression, I'll do it again on purpose right afterwards. It's weird...the only way I can describe it is, "facial echolalia". I just made that up though.

that's a ridiculously good idea. thanks for sharing. also, good terminology. :) yeah, i find myself getting confused when watching scrubs and stuff, and their faces don't seem to match up with what's going on. not that jd is a bad actor, lol, i just don't get it. :) funny show, though.

Making a good expression topic

Good term, that facial echolalia. This is how I learned to look like others. In conversations I would try to copy what their facial muscles did. and if I saw an interesting wxpression on the TV or movie, I would copy it, even if i did not know what it meant. :P

I do that, too! And I find myself imitating the facial expressions of the person I am talking to.
