There was an article in the paper this morning about the Asexual Visibility and Education Network (AVEN)

http://www.asexuality.org/home/

It said about 1% of people are asexual, and that lots of asexuals have romantic orientation (gay/bi/straight) and interest, and lots don't.

How can an asexual have sexual interests? It goes against the definition of "asexual", which afaik means "lack of sexual feelings".

I am actually a new member of this site. If you go on the site (AVEN), their are explanations in the forums and such which explain things like romantic orientation & being "in the grey" between sexual & asexual. I personally feel I count as a demisexual (demi for short). Basically, an asexual person can identify as gay, straight, bi, etc. in the romantic sense (desire all parts of a relationship that come with one w/o sex) a purely mental/emotional connection w/o full blown physical intimacy (expressing love in other ways) (its referred to as a platonic relationship a lot of times). If you want more info I suggest going on AVEN's site. Also, the "in the grey" stuff (Grey-A) is covered their. Go on AVENwiki (Radger's model sorry can't spell it ) for the definition of demi (simply put its lacking primary sexual desire only) but go on their for the full definition. Its actually kinda interesting. :D
