Sometimes we wonder if someone is being real, or fake. Here's a BBC test http://www.bbc.co.uk/science/humanbody/ ... ndex.shtml How do Aspies score?

(Also, unfortunately I think the multimedia works best in Internet Explorer)

I got 8 out of 20 correct.

According to them, fake smiles can be performed at will and genuine ones can't, which means most of my smiles are supposedly fake. :( I don't agree with that. I feel happy a lot of the time; I just have to make myself smile because my face doesn't always react naturally. "Fake" implies you're lying.

I think it's more of spontaneous smiles vs. consciously created.

I heard that fake smiles are seen as more acceptable than no smile at all, even if many can detect it. They're more likely to work with you also.

15 right out of 20. Not bad. I kind of didn't go with my first instinct on some of them though :? wonder if it helped or hurt me.

14 out of 20. I'm surprised. And also a little disturbed; I always felt like there's a lot of fake smiling going on in the world, but told myself I was just being cynical. :?

Also, I'd heard of the eye-crinkle-means-real-smile thing before, and was thinking about that as I did the test. So maybe I 'cheated.'

As far as AS smiles being faked -- the test did say that people usually can't tell. I think AS folk get an exception from that being like lying.

Some of those people had oddly shaped heads.

12-20

I personally can't fake a smile to save my life and I don't like "smiling on command" anyway, I always end up looking angry, I can only do genuine smiles.

19 out of 20.

I'm very aware of fake laughing. The problem with laughing is, that it is not only used in humorous situations, but also to hide embarrassment, grieve or some other discomfort and when sucking up to higher ranked people. It is recognizing those situations I have problems with.

I guessed on every single one and got 11 out of 20. The test said most people are bad at spotting fake smiles though.

10 out of 20. Here and here are scores from people on WP in the past. Did the score change for anyone who has taken the test before?

18/20/. I was looking for the eye crinkling. Plus half of them laughed, which says "genuine" to me.

Moohahaha! Last time I did a test like this, I was abysmal. Now, I got sixteen out of twenty... Yes, watching "Lie to Me" has really improved my ability to read body language.

Picture me patting myself on the back. :D

12 out of 20.

It took me a while to realize that there are actually movies, so most of the ones I missed are genuine. I was looking for that eye thing.

Yeah, I know what they mean. It's probably said with the general population in mind and for most NTs a forced smile probably is usually fake, but it's just a bit irritating.

13/20. Not so good. I wish they gave you this kind of tests at diagnosis and not the stupid ones they give.
