do you mind or not?
do you even feel disabled, or do you feel like it's just something that makes you a little different?

I'm not disabled, I'm just different.
The world is inequipped to deal with me- shouldn't that make the world disabled, not me?

The rest of the world seems terribly illogical to me. I feel quite sorry for it... and there are people who seem to be in trouble - I'm thinking of applying for a disability assistance to start logic skills classes and irrationality management to assist some of those poor souls.

Most of the time, I do. However I've been called things that are a lot worse like Handicapped and Slow by people who didn't care to take the time to really get to know me. I prefer the words, Difference or Disorder. I really wish that people would stop using the dreaded H-word, though and I'm anything but Slow.

I hate it when people first meet me & they say "you don't look like you have anything wrong with you, so grow up, & stop being a baby"
It's very annoying.

it's a shame society only seems to tolerate difference if you can put a label on it; hence its usefulness as a defence against open hostility/ discrimination... in theory.

that should be mandatory, but the powers that be wouldn't like it - too many people might learn to think for themselves, and challenge things - and that would never do... ;)

we're all different - aspies, NT's whoever. no-one's "better" than anyone else (except for me, of course  ).

it's a huge shame that "society" doesn't value people for who they are, and all the "marginalised" groups know how that feels - whether you're female, black, gay, have a disability, older, etc., etc. what are "the powers that be" frightened of, that they have to be so prescriptive about what's allowed and what's not? sounds like insecurity to me.

maybe it's better to think "poor things", and make their rules work for you. i agree with duncvis - use the label if it's useful for you. i think it's a matter of personal taste. i have no problem being labelled disabled if i get free dental treatment, for example. and i've been called so many awful and hurtful things throughout my life that "disabled" is almost supportive, by comparison.

and just remember - we can all think inside our heads, no matter what we're up to on the outside - "they" can never control that...

unless we're all in The Matrix, of course...

Nah, its just an illusion, trust me.

For example, when you buy a new car/object you immediatly notice when someone else has it and your first thought is that it is immensely popular. Which is not allways true. And I think you would remember the topics you "killed" (more like died of lack of interest) and notice it more than the ones otherwise.

What I really hate is the dreaded "R" word. I didn't even know what the word meant when kids started calling me "ret*d" in 2nd grade. Why has it become this ugly, catch-all word used to insult people who don't act like the rest of the world? And why do people assume that the way the rest of the world acts is so wonderful?

I agree that the way society operates is downright illogical. I mean, what is normal, anyway? If you're a racial minority, have a learning/mental/physical disability, never married by age 30, don't where what the rest of the sheeple call "fashion", a woman who won't wear torture devices....I mean....high heels, hate partying and getting drunk, don't play games in relationships, don't get into the compete-at-all-costs game, have the wrong hairstyle......which by the way, is a good description of myself, you're considered "abnormal". So how in the world can anyone be "normal" if the majority of the world is "abnormal"? Would being abnormal, then become normal?

I don't like the word because I associate it with people with things like Downs Syndrome ect.

It mkaes me feel like I'm way worse than I actually am. I don't mind my family using it but that's IT.

I don't feel disabled because I am able to maintain a job and look after my home. I don't know how I would feel if I needed help with these things.

I've heard it called a diffability, which is a term that accepts we are different, yet highlights that we have many abilities. I think that's a better description.
