I just recently learned that my University has an Asperger's group that meets once a week. My therapist thought it would be a good opportunity for me so I agreed to go. I'm beginning to regret that for several reasons. First of all it ruins my routine and has thrown me into quite a melt down. Second of all I hate meeting new people. On the other hand, I do think its quite funny for there to be a group for people who don't like groups of people.

Has anyone else ever gone to an Asperger's group? Was the experience good or bad?

I find 'Asperger group' a bit of an oxymoron too but would be interested to go to one and should get the opportunity when I move to Ireland next year.
I went to group counselling briefly but it was horrible, unhelpful and I apparently caused a big row but they were picking on me first.

I did an AS group once. It was a complete waste of time because no one wanted to talk (big surprise).

stupidcat,
think they are good for those who want them, bad for those who don't.
if don't like it stop going, that is what am did after trying one out before,a few members from here used to go there,am went a few years back and was fully supported by relatives, but it was completely unorganised, unstructured and noisy.
but if think are getting something out of it and are able to cope with it,stay and see how it goes.

one thing with support is they need to spend more funding on adults than children,am know more childrens places than adults groups specifically for ASDers that is.

am going to be at anglo house [national autistic society day centre] from next week, two full days every week, was told by social worker it cost a lot of money for funding and they don't like to give it to people already in twenty four hour care but got it anyway, she said in all-over hundred pound per day per person,it's a proper...full of things to do with support type place rather than a 'drop in centre/group' which is designed more for the higher functioners/without support needs, people in uk after something like this should check NAS site under their area,to see if they offer the service, but they will want referal through social worker.
