It's the first day of spring semester for me, and yesterday moving back in and reacclimating myself with the environment in my dorm was quite a stressful event for me.

Anyways, I have problems with tics and yesterday driving back the campus I was ticing like crazy. Last night trying to sleep was no fun either, I had tinnitus squealing away in my ears all night long making it difficult to sleep which normally doesn't affect me too badly.

This seems to be reaction from stress, anyone else concure?

Yeah, my tinnitus is agrivated when I'm stressed or anxious.
I have to sleep with a fan on to drown it out.

While I've got a few ticks, nothing worth mentioning.....but exercising and reducing caffeen helps.

I don't get tinnitus but I do shake when I'm stressed, and one of my ears starts hurting for no reason whatsoever. I figure it's got to be stress related because it goes away as soon as I relax and never happens when I'm calm and alone.

Heh, I most certainly agree. Well, I don't have tinnitus, but I do have tics.

A few weeks ago at university, I bought a cup of hot coffee when my class was over. After I had bought it I realized that I had to run to the bus stop soon. This stressed me up. I have several different tics, but one of them is in my arms. As I was trying to drink up the coffee quickly, my arm "ticked", causing me to spill hot coffee all over my hand. Very frustrating, but at the same time amusing. I almost started laughing.

The incidence of tinnitus with AS is interesting. I'm not sure I've encountered that highlighted before.

I have high pitched tinnitus in both ears, the sort according to the consultant "associated with over-exposure to rock music, heavy equipment or shooting" none of which applies. It's constant, not stress-related.

Visual migraines with olfactory illusions, now that's stress-related.

I got Tinnitus last summer and I thought it was from playing my bass with headphones. My anxiety makes it much worse and I have 1-3 sleepless nights a week.
I didn't know Tinnitus was connected to AS!

I have tics, I shut down/zone out and I click my tounge around people. I considered stopping eating dairy foods and stop drinking coffee, but I know it's my social phobia, not the milk or the coffee.

Does anyone have more info on AS and Tinnitus??

I have tics that get worse under stress. They started showing up last year when I was going through prolonged stress at work - it was like finals week in college, except it went on for months. :(

Scoots5012, I live in De Pere and have noticed that, sometimes, there seems to be an external noise causing low-frequency tinnitus. I think there may be something in the area here that is aggravating it. Yours is loud-pitched and higher; the one I mean is lower and more like a super-low guitar chord. Kinda spooky, eh?

I've had some pretty bad ticks over the years. They generally seem to be stress related.

I've never noticed tinnitus to be stress-related, but do know that coffee and alcohol both make it much worse.

I live in oshkosh at the university couped in a cinder block dorm. I also use ear plugs at night to kill the ambient noise coming from all parts of the building to try and sleep.

I had it again last night, but it subsided rather quickly. I actually have three different kinds of tinnitus I've noticed. What I had sunday night was a steady tone beating at ~ 350hz. The other tinnitus I usually have is a "backround" type tinnitus that I can only hear when all else is quiet. You know the sound on star trek when they beam someone up? Thats almost what this sounds like.

I have this distorted three-tone buzzing in my left ear and one low tone in my right ear. It's usually ok in the daytime as I'm constantly around sound that blocks it, but at night, the volume of it increases so much that I often can't sleep because of the noise and the anxiety. On the 3 nights a week after I have exercised, I usually fall asleep very quickly because I'm exhausted, but on the 4 others I go around all day wondering if I'll sleep 6 or 4 hours this night. Just now, I'm already certain that it's going to be one of these 4-hour sleep nights.

What tics were that? I often feel compelled to shake my legs or move my whole body while driving, but I do it without losing the grip of the steering wheel, and without changing pressure on the gas pedal.

Regarding tinnitus, I have a fairly loud constant noise in my ears (or maybe in my head). It resembles TV static. Despite the fact that it was there since I can remember, so I had time to get used to it, nevertheless it sometimes drives me crazy. In addition to that, I sometimes get a loud high-pitched noise, usually only in one ear. This one is difficult to withstand, but it usually subsides within minutes. Neither of these phenomena seem to be directly correlated to stress.

I am definitely surprised by the apparent incidence of tinnitus here, me included, even allowing for the skewing of the thread as those interested and affected are much more likely to paticipate.

A quick search turned up no definite medical reference linking Asperger's and tinnitus, just one professional working in this area*, but a fair number of individual stories reporting both AS and tinnitus. Could this be one more aspect of hypersensitivity or brain hyperactivity not yet fully recognised?

Well, I'm definetly hypersensitive!
