I don't know if I really do have AS. I am 17 and I was diagnosed with AS a couple years ago, but I have often wondered if I was misdiagnosed. I have been described as shy and reserved for a number of years, but I don't exibit any obvious AS behavior. I understand bodylanguage and unwritten social cues, but I tend to be a bit blunt or frank with people sometimes. Anyone please, give me your opinion, do you think i have AS or do I have somthing else or nothing?

I am not a psychiatrist, but maybe schizoid personality disorder is more fitting in your case.

It doesn´t matter. If you have issues (or not) you're gonna have to deal with it, regardless of any neurological state your in. Your problems need to addressed and treated, but the specific name is of lesser importance.

You never know. I believe I have Asperger's because I exhibited a lot of the common symptoms growing up. However, my psychologist said I have a mild case at best, because a several things I told him about myself didn't match up at all with the "classic" profile. My personal theory is that some of these behaviors changed over the years as I became more aware of them as problem issues. But it's different for everyone.

Here's some diagnostic criterias:
http://web.syr.edu/~rjkopp/data/as_diag_list.html

It doesn't fit AS criteria, providing it's always been that way,and have not just learnt to overcome difficulties-and,are not being oblivious to traits that the pysch witnessed.
Although Neant mentioned SPD,it still is possible to be like that and not have a name for it,perhaps get a second opinion from another pysch.

If you're not a psychiatrist, then how did you come to that conclusion from the little that Gibbs posted?

Gibbs, maybe you should look at the criteria and see if you have/had most of the criteria. I am not currently diagnosed with anything. But as a child I was profoundly abnormal in many AS ways and today I am still affected but I have learned how to deal with it or mask instinctive behaviors. I still have noise sensitivities and social difficulties that adversely affect my life. I am also rigid and overly simplistic in my thinking at times and cannot seem to understand other's views.
My son has been diagnosed with AS and he has worked through many of the challenges to the point where some are practically nonexistent. (of course, they are there, just disguised) He was definately more autistic-like when he was 2-10 years old.
