Hello everyone, this is a question for any who have a had a meltdown either recently or previously. I just realized i had a big one around the age of 21. Im currently 28 and to this day my mother reassures me it happened, but i have no recollection about it, and what caused it. Anyone else have this experience?

Yeah.. I used to have lots of meltdowns/shutdowns when I was a kid, and I can remember some of them, but my mom told me I used to, like, go limp and just lie there sometimes, and I totally do not remember that. And once I apparently almost broke a kid's arm, but I don't remember that either. And I don't remember throwing chairs in school, but I know I did.

I used to think people were kind of full of it when they talked about bad stuff getting shut out of your memory, but it's happened to me a few times now, and not just with meltdown type stuff. (Nothing horrible like rape or whatever, just regular-level bad stuff.) But I have a really faulty memory in the first place, so who knows.

Then I feel duty bound to say that I said on another thread that I thought I had experienced meltdowns and shutdowns, but as you have described them, no I haven't. I can't imagine losing touch completely like that. It must be very frightening.

Not to my knowledge... My ex husband used to say that I did all sorts of things that I do not recall... but he was a not so nice fellow who said a lot of thing that were questionable at best... so I do not know that I believe what he told me. No one I trust ever confirmed what he said. Usually when I shut down I know when it is about to happen and why it is happening. I often do not recall shutting down though. One moment I am thinking to myself, "This is bad... have to get out of here" then someone is either shaking me back to reality or picking me up off the floor.

Meltdowns and shutdowns, yes, but no memory loss. However, I also have a seizure disorder, so if the shutdown or meltdown involves a seizure, then I may have some gaps in my memory.

Not so much memory loss, i think, but i remember where i was, who was present, but no idea what was said to trigger, and what i said in response (my meltdown was a verbal assault).

I had a bad one in primary school that I don't remember, remember right up until just before but nothing after, this one involved violence and I'm just glad I was only a kid at the time but I still really hurt the other person.
Had an incredible one recently that I wish I couldn't remember, thankfully I didn't hurt anyone that time but I did embarrass myself quite badly.
Losing control is scary but it's also humiliating.

I remember losing control in my regular class, in Grade 6. The kids in that class didn't talk to me anymore, after that incident.
