but i just got prescribed vicodin for the first time ever. and i hear it generally just kills pain, can get you a little high, and can cause drowsiness.

but it doesn't make me drowsy at all. in fact i feel on top of thw world, absurdly good mood, hyper even.

and i've been reading some things about AS; random facts, correlations here on the boards from people and apparently we have low cortisone levels? somewhat relative i guess to what i'm trying to say in a way that i have trouble explaining and not definitely sure about; a rather sketchy theory at best. but more to the point that aspies tend to operate better under stress. one form of stress is being tired, drowsy. i've also heard that aspies can have superfocus when tired.

so to speak is it logical to say that maybe the vicodin might have a slightly differing effect on aspies in general such a way? instead of 'causing drowsiness of any kind, rather instead make you feel hyper and superfocused? accompanied with the small high, this is rather pleasant.

or is it just me? idk

I took vicodin twice, for dental procedures. It did this for me: eliminated the pain completely. That's it. I felt no high, nothing. It just killed the searing pain completely. Other pain killers simply make the pain more tolerable.

hmm, well maybe the pain can be a negating factor on it's other effects. personally i didn't have all that much pain. i was only prescribed it because the doctor was really sympathetic towards strepp throat apparently. i just take it so i can eat comfortably without the food feeling like it's clawing at my tonsils on the way down

I don’t think I’ve ever tries Vicodin but over the counter sleeping pills make me very hyper and have the opposite intended effect. Yes I do get VERY determined and focused if I’m working on something and get tired.

interesting. it just goes to show there are so many indirect symptoms and side-effects of AS/autism that you don't see so much or collectively in AS/autism informational sources, whether on the internet or in book form as far as i've seen.

i think someday someone should make a compilation of all such AS/autie knowledge/trivialities and publish it into an updated, unabridged factual source to make for understanding ourselves (for those who haven't taken note of such habits or things in themselves yet) and so that others may better understand us.
an enlightening script considering most people don't know much about AS for example if anything except that it's a somewhat lesser form of autism in a sense.

I wonder if the release from pain may have made you high as a kite? It does for me. I'm not very good at figuring out exactly how much pain I have, or even whether I have pain. Until it's gone. Then I'm ecstatic.

Morphine [after surgery] made me alert as a fox, when it's supposed to make you dopey.... I didn't have any pain either to begin with, but hey, they just gave it to me anyway.

Yeah morphine is rather crap ifor aspies in post surgery doses. I'd heard loads of stories about morphine hallucinations and such but it did nothing for me. Possible that it made me more focused yes, not what you want when you're in that kind of pain.

Opiates work on the dopamine receptors and the way you feel and the things you do when on them can quickly become a stim so watch yourself with those,. Oh they're physically addictive too. They're pretty harlmless on their own but I think the synthetic ones (like oxycontin) have s**t in them that seriously mess with your liver and guts.
