Not in my opinion, but for many that's as real as it gets. They should take a nice quiet walk in the woods to get reoriented.

I used too feel like this all the time at school, I had nothing in common with other people in my age group whatsoever
And now I feel like this when people talk about fashion and hairstyles. I have no idea what they're on about, it's like a foreign language to me

Noa x

I've always felt like this. A lot of people are incredibly boring in the things they talk about. I just don't get it.

I don't feel that I'm out of touch with popular culture, I know that I'm out of touch with popular culture. It doesn't bother me, as I don't care about my social status, and I know that there is more to reality than whatever or whoever is currently fashionable.

Sometimes I know what others around me are talking about, it's just that I don't care about current events most of the time.

Though I must admit, part of me wants to "get with it", even if hardly any of it catches my interest, just so I can engage in some sort of conversation and I won't feel so stupid or alone.

I almost completely stopped watching commercial tv and listening to commercial radio when my oldest son was born, 11 years ago. I have never seen a reality tv show, or used an MP3 player of any kind. I've never seen "American Idol", or even a commercial for it.

I listen to NPR (National Public Radio) for my news, so I probably have as good or better idea of what's going on in the world than a lot of Americans, but I couldn't tell you anything about that mom who had a bunch of babies, or whatever the equivalent shock-news is these days. I can't tell all those look-alike celebrities apart, and don't know or care who is divorcing whom, and who has the most cellulite.

So, I'm out of touch with popular culture, but I'm not sure I'd call that "reality". The mega-corporations who sponsor all that crappy tv, "news", etc, control what "reality" we see, and what we don't see, so we don't realize that they are poisoning the environment with slave labor. It's kind of a skewed reality.

Hey, you asked. I'm in a bit of a mood today.

Ditto, all the time, and quite excessively!

And, sometimes my brain almost melts -- I even get mild headaches -- from all the effort I make trying to keep from being "found out" that I have no idea what somebody is talking about. Why, they might think I belong on a different planet!

LOL! Actually, I take great pride in not knowing who is playing in the Super Bowl each year. Sometimes I'll accidentally hear who's playing, and I think, "Oh, rats! I didn't want to know!" I'm weird that way, I guess.

Nope. When I purposefully avoid Hollywood gossip, and the scores from big three sports, and whatever the latest reality show is on TV, that can't be called "out of touch". I prefer to call it "not wasting time on silly things".

Constantly feel that way, but don't really care enough about those superficial things to waste my time getting up to speed with them. People that care so much about those things are not really people I would enjoy spending time with anyway. For what? To talk about the latest reality show? Or the latest fashions? Some people really need to get a life.... :?

I haven't been "in touch" with popular culture for a long time, probably not since childhood. I don't watch any soaps or reality shows, I'm not on any social networking sites, I don't know anything about cars, I couldn't tell you anything about what new films or albums are due to be released and I don't care what features are on the latest iPhone, in fact until recently I didn't even know what an 'app' was.

If it wasn't for my interest in football (soccer) I don't think I'd have any reason to talk to anyone.

I have occasional bouts of disassociation. Even NTs have them at times.

Luckily, I'm interested in football, and know a little bit about music, although I hardly like any music from past 1990. That's despite being only 20 years old . It's ironic when I talk about bands from the 60s and 70s that only people who are...ahem...of advanced age have heard of.

I rarely watch films, so when people talk about the latest movie, I have nothing to say. I really need to get out more.

That happens to me all the time. It seems like I've never had any interest in what's popular. Sometimes I will develop an interest in stuff that's "cool", but that usually happens AFTER everyone else loses interest (I always seemed to be a step behind everyone). I don't watch much TV (and I HATE reality TV), I have almost no interest in politics and don't care about celebrities or anything of that stuff.
