I am aware that I posted a thread about a week or so ago stating that I was taking a first step to getting a diagnosis. Regardless of that, I have a question.

How would I go about setting up an appointment with a Psychiatrist/Psychologist for an AS/ASD evaluation? Can I just call and set one up or do I need a referral from another medical professional?

I understand that I have factors working against me, but I figured I would give it a shot. :D

Any information you can give me regarding this matter will be helpful.

Also. I live in American, specifically in Michigan, if that helps any.

That would depend on your insurance more than anything else. If you've located a professional who does evaluations, you should ask them that question.

The referral just to be able to see someone is usually an insurance thing. The actual "referral" just means that some doctor tells you that some other doctor might be able to help you. (Like, my psychiatrist told me that if I find someone who works with ASDs in adults, I should tell her, so she can add them to her referral list. That pretty much just means putting it up on her website that such-and-such person works with adults with ASDs.)
