So, I was at omegle, and had this conversation:

Erik: What do you know about Asperger's Syndrome?
Stranger: Lots
Erik: OK. Tell me a little bit about it.
Stranger: It's similar to autism
Erik: Yes. What else?
Stranger: That's all I'm allowed to tell you.
Erik: You don't know anything else about it, that is.
Stranger: Untrue.
Erik: Go ahead and tell me, then.
Stranger: I'm not allowed to reveal corporate secrets.
Erik: I know what it is, as I have it and have made research into it, I'm just interested in what you know about it. Asperger's Syndrome is hardly a "secret", it's in the DSM-IV.
Stranger: Well, I work for a company that works with childen with that and similar brain dysfunctions and we help to treat them using bio- and neuro-feedback along with other measures. I was joking about the secret thing.
Erik: What's the company called?
Stranger: Crossroads institute.

And then he/she showed me this web page. I don't know what to make of it. Any ideas?

Could I see that short story, if it's not too much trouble?

Rest of the story topic

I wrote it in April, 2007. It has an Aspie theme.

The story is actually like a first chapter to the rest of the book, a collection of sorts.

At this point, i have decided to rework a part of the story, and so I have removed the quotation for further review. Thanks.

I read the page. It just seems like over hyped neuro-feedback therapy.

I'm sceptical about it. The monitering and understanding of the brain is still in is beginning. There still alot to learn. I quite sceptical to such a thing be possible with the current knowledges. Particurally with that much secrets around it! It must be a pseudo-science things to sinking money from desperate parents who want a "normal" kid.

Yeah, it's quite unproven, no real science behind it.

What "neurofeedback" can do, simple practice can do. That's what your brain's built to do: You learn by practice, and when you get it right you feel good so you want to do it the same way again. It's not exactly brain surgery (thank goodness).

Here's neurofeedback for you: Play your favorite video game. Play it for a month. At the end of the month, compare your performance to the beginning of the month. Result: Your brain has made new neural connections to accommodate solving exactly the sort of problems that the video game has been posing. Video games are neurofeedback, really. So is real life. Every time you have a conversation, you learn how to have conversations.

Yes, this is a "leech money off desperate parents" strategy. Any form of practice works just as well as, and probably better than, neurofeedback (especially considering it's actual practice rather than some kind of simulated change-your-brain-waves deal).

Their evaluation procedure, as they describe it, is pretty much the same as will be done for children going through a full neurological assessment for autism vs. other problems. They say they do an EEG, neurodevelopmental evaluation, cognitive evaluation. My daughter had the same done at a local hospital and insurance paid for it. Now what happens after this screen has happened? In my daughter's case- absolutely nothing. All it's really good for is to have a report to wave at school systems in case they are reluctant to give a child services. A moot point in her case since she was already recieving services. (But now we have a report to wave if they ever try to remove them.)

What happens after these people do their assessment? Also nothing. But it's a "nothing" that likely comes with a hefty price tag and involves various interventions for the child that are useless at best, harmful at worst, and take the place of more wholesome and helpful interventions like Occupational Therapy and trips to the park.
