I started talking about the new Twilight movie New Moon and dad yelled I DON'T CARE! I'm now sitting here in tears debating if I should just go with my sister SHEESH! BESIDES after the movie we talk about it for 10min. And that's IT SHEESH!! !!

I'm sorry this happened to you. It sounds like your dad just snapped for no reason. Try talking to him about it when he's a bit calmer. I'd go to the movie, just to get your mind off it. *hugs*

I can relate to this. Often times it's nothing personal, the person may be really stressed out or frustrated about something. You should talk to him about it when he's calmer, like the person above me said.

Wow, talk about bad luck with your special interest--picking something where the anti-movement is just as big as the thing itself!

At least he was honest. I don't always like hearing things I am not into so I say things like "Don't care" "Not interested" "This is boring."

Look at it this way. Let's say your dad was going on and on about something that you have no interest what so ever in. Let's say collecting antique furniture (or whatever). Now imagine he was yelling because he still had his woodworking shop ear protectors on. Now throw in top of it you've had a bad day & you have a headache. Now can you see his point? This perhaps is a classic example of someone with AS having a lack of empathy. If you look at it from his POV things may look a little different. I mean, yes, he should have been a little more polite about it. But maybe you were a being a bit more intense than you realize.

Not taking things like this personally might help you get over them more easily. After all, actions of other people speak largely of them, not of you.

IMO it was just a case of misunderstanding and overreacting on both sides.

Zelda, you and I sound similar in this respect. I tend to BITE MY TOUNGE when I have such an impulse, but sometimes I STILL "ramble". I STILL get ignored, etc.... Still, I have been on the receiving end of such things, sometimes from the SAME people that complain if I do it.

Try to hold it in a bit.

As for the laughter? I do THAT also. I really try to hold that in. But I DO sometimes crack a smile, and maybe laugh a LITTLE. Still, you can hold that back.

If ypur sister likes twilight, maybe SHE will be more interested. 8-) Your fsther might not like it anyway.

there are only so many things my brain can track at once so if my son is going on about his things I sometimes have to tell him I can't listen or that I've heard enough and can't take anymore, but I always try to tell him I'm glad he has things that are so fun to think and talk about.

LOL, now he does the same thing to me when I go on about something. payback is a b***h :D
