I know this might be a silly question here, but my ADD symptoms cause me so much difficulty that maybe I don't always want to clutter up the WP with them...My attention span seems like it is broken lately...and I was wondering if there was the equivalent to WP, but more for people who mainly suffer from ADD....(Don't get me wrong..my AS symptoms are surely present...)...It is just that my ADD symptoms are worse.
Currently, I am taking Adderall regularly...it makes me hyperfocus more on certain things, but it is doing nothing at all for my executive function...everything is as muddled and cluttered as ever...but if I don't take it, it is even Worse....
So anyone know of a good ADD forum..I was a member of ADD forums years ago...but I don't know where to look anymore..

I was considering making a post about ADHD, but here's one!
Currently, ADHD is considered a "rule out" diagnosis for me, meaning that they want to find out if I have it or not. When I looked up the DSM-IV criteria, there's no doubt. I have every single symptom of inattentive type ADHD. Every one.
I have had a ton of anxiety lately which is making the ADHD symptoms far worse. I can't remember things, can't remember to do things, can't stay organized (er, meaning I can't follow the systems tha tmy parents or therapists have put in place for me like I normally would), and can't even focus enough to read. Writing a post or an e-mail takes ages because I'm so all over the place. It's like someone keeps changing the channel in my brain!
Just commiserating, I guess. I know how you feel. It's frustrating.
I'm the only person that thinks I have ADHD. Psychiatrist wasn't interested and a teacher I know says it's more of a behavioral thing.
Poopy you can post in here. The clutter is welcome.

I match the criteria for more than one type of ADD...inattentive...limbic....others....
Maybe the term is "combined type"
Just commiserating, I guess. I know how you feel. It's frustrating.
Yeah..it is like that for me....I get hyperfocused on stuff...but just stuff that I am not supposed to be doing, and even when I try to be Reeeely reeely good, and get everything done just so...there will be 4 or 5 things that slip through the cracks...and I will screw up....it is incredibly frustrating...I end up blowing up at other people over stuff that I did wrong...because I am soooo frustrated....
I go in circles and circles and circles and time just flies by so quickly...
Lately I feel like my memory is full of holes...I forget simple things I am supposed to know...I forget how to do stuff that I have done dozens of times...it's scary....and I don't like it.
There are all these detail-intensive things I have to do for my home-business and I have to pace in circles to keep from shutting down....but I shut down anyway...
I am so glad I am in a position where I am able to occasionally tell my boss to go to hell without suffering the repercussions...I am wired to want to multi-task...but I can't.
I know all the things that I ought to do to make my brain function better...like more exercise...um...my omegas....which I totally have fallen out of the routine of taking...
But I am so muddled and bogged down it is incredibly difficult to incorporate these things...
I live in a den of unending chaos...I feel like I could work forever and ever and never reach a point of stability.....

There is a thread floating around to the effect of "Do you "suffer" from your AS"?
I don't "suffer" from the AS symptoms..But I do suffer from the ADD symptoms..

Diagnosis-wise...I was diagnosed by a Gen. Practitioner...2 of them, actually...sorta...it was weird....(I was later told that didn't count)...I was prescribed Adderall a few years ago...But I have found it reeeeally hard to find another doctor willing to help me with my ADD and lately I have been taking it without a script..because I am so overloaded that I really really really need something...(OK...send in the SWAT team on me
)
When not taking ADD meds, I am perpetually self-medicating with energy pills and energy drinks and other stuff...just to be able to sustain the mental stamina to barely scrape by with day-to-day chores....With ADD meds...I don't have to take so many other things in order to stay focused...albiet as I have said...I am still extremely scattered.
The person who assessed me for Asperger's said that since I have Asperger's, I can't have ADD, and that all my ADD symptoms are actually related to my Asperger's.
The last psychiatrist I saw agreed with the AS assessment, but was more interested in focusing on my anxiety and possible depression than anything having to do with ADD.
I was prescribed Wellbutrin, and the Wellbutrin made me feel like going postal....I was angry depressed muddled and confused and in a constant state of meltdown or near-meltdown.
I have said this time and time again, but I wish there was more of a system willing to help adults with ADD...it is a real condition...it can cause a lot of anguish...People who have it really bad are likely to not be able to afford treatment.
There is an expensive Adult ADD clinic in Houston that does not accept insurance...and the doctor I spoke to there was unfriendly and unhelpful and wanted a whole lot of money...
The Baylor sliding-scale clinic was the one that prescribed me the psychosis-inducing Wellbutrin....I could tell that it would be near-impossible to get the guy to accept that I was telling the truth and be willing to help me with an ADD script.
The doctor who originally prescribed me with the meds..I had a nurse-friend come into the office and help me talk to the doctor....That was extremely helpful, but I have no idea how I could ever get something like that to happen again....and that is why I have to take meds without a script.
Sorry I am venting...I am very frustrated and overloaded, and just feel paralysed at the moment.... ![]()

I, for one, would be happy to have you post ADHD topics on WP. Under the "General Autism Discussion" heading, it says, "Talk about anything that has at least something to do with Autism, Asperger's, ADHD, and life. Other unrelated discussion belongs in the Random Discussion forum."
I don't know where I fit as far as AS, ADHD, whatever is concerned. But I do know that I relate very strongly to what people say about ADHD (except for the H bit. That's not me.) The flakiness, executive dysfunction, leaving things in the toaster oven to catch fire, forgetting to eat dinner, not being able to help my 3rd grader get his homework done, because I can't keep track of the different worksheets as well as the separate to-do list.... I definitely suffer from that. Absolutely!

I have a hyperactive output of ideas...that I have difficulty filtering...let alone manifesting...but that is about the extent of my hyperactivity...I am weighed down by ideas...and the stuff I collect... ![]()

Interesting. I feel like I have a hyperactive brain but my actions are quite the opposite of that. And I too drink caffeine and have lots of sugary snacks to give me energy. I don't usually drink energy drinks. I had a Mother energy drink once and it made me so jittery.
I think that teacher was trying to say to me that I can't have both AS and ADD. I disagree with that. I'm getting help for AS but not ADD.

It wasn't until well after I had been diagnosed with ADD that I heard the term executive dysfunction. I googled it and read about it and it was like I had finally found the key to understanding huge chunks of my life. I come from a somewhat academically gifted family and I've always felt so stupid and lazy in comparison. Meds help with my mental stamina but do little to nothing in my ability to plan and execute. I do separate those difficulties from my lifelong confusion about all things social.
