I like some touching. I enjoy a friendly hand on my shoulder, or being touched by people I like. I hate when my dad touches me. and I usually dont like when my mom touches me. l hate tapping on my shoulder if it's too hard or fast. or unexpected hugs from the back. also, sometimes if someone's foot touches mine unexpectedly, it jumps back. it's quite embarassing, as it is involuntary and noticeable. it just moves in response to the touch, i dont even get startled by it, it's just physical.
oh but i DO startle easy.

anyone else feel that? esp. the involuntary jumping foot response. do you have anything like that?

Yes, touch from another person bothers me. I don't like someone's hand on my shoulder at all. I don't like hugs from others except bf and kids. I don't like unexpected hugs, except from the kids (not even from bf). I can naturally not feel uneasy with my kids and bf (except that hug from bf...he tends to hug from behind, sometimes under my arms). Everyone else, i cringe. My foot does move away fast if someone's foot touches mine under the table. My son's friend, who is like 7, decided to hug me and my daughter cause he was acting funny and i just wanted to peel him off of me and send him home. Bf's mom put her hand on my back once to get around me and i jerked away from her. I feel like saying "ewww" when this happens. She even touched my stomach when i was preggs with my daughter or son, can't remember and i told her off. She said she was feeling the baby, umm, no you are touching my STOMACH! I hate, hate, hate it! Also i hate being touched romantically which is a problem with bf as he thinks i don't love him. I am hyper sensitive to touch and extremely ticklish.

I tend to keep physical contacts to a minimum, although some are unavoidable. A few years back, I worked with some people from mainland China and they were fond of punching people in the shoulder. I finally screamed at one of them, end of problem. Turned out, I wasn't the only American in the group who was annoyed by the behavior.

It has never been a problem to me, the only thing I dislike, which NT's also do, is being hugged or touched by someone you dislike, but that doesn't count, but when some stranger bumps into me, I understand he didn't mean it.

It varies....some days I can be touched, but only by certain people I really trust. People say I don't give "real" hugs. That's probably because I'm uncomfortable when I'm being hugged. If I'm upset, nobody can touch me, I will yell, "Don't touch me!" without even thinking about it.

I dislike human touch, but I love to stroke animals, especially cats, dogs, horses. Humans are just nasty, and their hair feels so gross. I can barely stand my own, much less someone else's.

I like having my wife run her fingers through my hair, it is relaxing. Enjoy getting haircuts the old fashioned way with scissors for the same reason.

Enjoy stroking our cats' hair, so soft and silky. Texture of their footpads is interesting.

Can Not Stand scratchy things touching my palms, will still be feeling that sensation for hours after.

Another icky is handling raw meat while cooking. Eeewwwww, ick. Must wear plastic gloves.
Which is a health thing as often working on models will often have nicked or poked a finger somewhere along the way.

With some other health troubles I get cold very fast - love the feel of certain fabrics of scarves.

Can not handle shirt collar tags - they come out as soon as getting home with new shirt.

I have nerve damage along with sensory issues, so this is a weird one for me. My foot thing is due to my nerve damage... I know that... and as painful as it can be, it is funny. My husband has very long dreadlocks... if he is sitting on the one end of our couch, I can sit with my legs out and if his hair accidentally touches my right foot, my whole leg goes nuts. It starts twitching and jerking and I just know one day it will end up kicking him in the head. It is surreal to me to watch my leg do as it will. I'll be sitting here yelping, "Oh my god! Stop it!" while I am laughing my butt off and flapping my hands. But if he grabs that same foot tightly to crack my toes or something, I have no issues at all.

In general I do not like unexpected touch. It weirds me out and I pull away, jump or get mad. It short circuits my brain for a few moments and I need to reset. I do better when it is my husband or kids, because I know how they will touch me, but it still rattles me pretty badly sometimes. I can soooooo relate to the pregnant stomach thing. Oh that made me nuts. And people get seriously pissed off at you for getting annoyed with them for putting their hands all over you. WTH. They come up and think they have the right to put their hands all over you and think you have nerve for being annoyed?!?! Make you want to slap people and then say something catty like "Oh I thought it was just reach out and touch people day. You didn't like that?" Sorry... I'll quit being pissy now...

There are some touch things I am fine with. I do not mind hugging people I like if they are thick people. I do not like hugging thin or scrawny people... but thick people feel good. I know a guy who is great to hug. Whenever I see him I run up to him and wrap my self all around him. I could hug him all day. I also do not mind people I like putting their hands on me if the pressure is firm and consistent. I do not like patting or poking, but if my husband puts his hand on me and keeps it there, I am ok with it. I do not like holding hands, but I like to either hold someones arm or have them hold mine. Strangely, I constantly touch myself in pokey manners. I poke my face, tug my ears, whack my knuckles, slap my legs...

I thought I was the only one! I really don't like being touched by strangers or almost anyone else unless I'm expecting it. For instance if I get poked hard enough I tend to jump or turn to face the person usually with clenched fists. Hugs I don't mind if their from pretty girls (who doesn't?) or parents or other family. One thing I can't stand is being touched on the shoulder or "soothed" it pisses me off and I honestly can't tell you why. Teachers used to do that too me and wouldn't stop when I told them too.

I worry that if I ever end up in bed with a girl that she'll poke me or touch my back and I'll reflexively throw her out or something. Not a good relationship quirk.

Touch is really complex for me:

If I am sitting next to someone--even someone I know, like and trust, if their elbow is touching my arm, it is the worst sensation ever. I would rather have a root canal than sit through that. If my bf is rhythmically touching me, or gently rubbing my back, it sends me absolutely squirrelly.

If I am the one initiating the touch, though, I am okay with it.

On the other hand, a hug, or pressure is fine, and I have a very high tolerance for pain.

I read a news story here in Canada that 66% of people were reluctant to shake hands because of H1N1/09. All I could think was, "Thanks--now I don't need an excuse not to shake hands."

well if i like the person, touch can be very comforting. a friendly hand on the shoulder from a teacher i respect or a peer can be very nice.
