I didn't start eating then liking Dark Chocolate until my Psychology teacher said it was good for you. I also didn't get into the rock music stations until a friend I knew was into them. Sadly I'm a follower not a leader.

I don't think that's so bad, though. How else are you supposed to learn what you like or not? I've tried things, and sometimes made major life decisions, based on what other people liked, because I didn't know what I liked. I need to be exposed to something, and try it, before I know whether it's good for me.
It always amazes me when teenagers know what they want to be when they grow up, and it's some sensible, real life thing. How do they
know? How do they even know what adults really do?
Finally, in my 40's I have a vague clue who I am and what my values and interests are. When I was in my 20's, I had no clue. Not only that, but I didn't know that I had no clue. There are some things that I got interested in, which were actually other people's interests and not my own. Eventually, those were discarded. There are other things that I truly am interested it, which are mine, but I don't think I had anything like that when I was in my 20's. Not really. It's okay, though, because I think of this as the second, better half of my life, where it all comes together---and without the pressures of having to look a certain way or dress a certain way.
