I seem to be following a pattern of becoming friends with people who have OCD. It might be because I have co- morbid OCD diagnosis with my PDD-NOS. I didn't realize it until about a month ago, but all of my closest friends are OCD. (That's 2 or three people) There are a lot of similarities between ASD and OCD. We can talk about one subject for hours together where more NT people have to move on to other topics. We understand each others need for control and order. The only thing is they don't understand sensory overload, stimming, and they still say I'm awkward. I guess it can't be avoided though. Other than that I can get along quite well with them. Anybody else have friends who are OCD?

I can see some similarities with some of my friends although none of them (that I know of) have been diagnosed with OCD (nor have I).

A couple of my friends like repeating the same phrases I do and quoting the same quotes from movies and commercials. In one instance he'll pick up my quotes and I'll pick up his quotes and whenever we hang out we say them all the time. It amuses us. I'm not sure if it's the same for him, but I say them even when I don't want to, I'll try to catch myself halfway through saying it and it pisses me off. It feels right to say it but I get angry that I'm doing it when I realize that I'm saying it so often it's even weird for him.

Yes even those friends say I am 'awkward'. So I can relate to you.

My partner/carer/housemate has severe OCD!

But then, I also have it, just nowhere near as severe. We didn't meet through that though.

See look, it's all best friends and partners. I think theres something to that. OCD people can relate to our idiosyncrasies, yet help us out in social situations. We typically aren't as compulsive as them (unless you're co-morbid) so we can help them out with that. I think it's like a natural balance or something.

My OCD partner is more about the lean than the compulsiveness. I am very clean and bsessive in the kitchen, and obsessive over my food (I have everything overcooked because I know it will more likely kill any germs etc - should never let someone with OCD take a food tech GCSE!) but other than that it's mostly ritualistic. Again, with food (I have an eating disorder too, food's a big thing with me for some reason) - for example I have to line up snacks before I eat them, in order, and I rarely mix food even if it's on the same plate because I have issues with mixing textures. I'll also dissect ice lollies with more than one texture, boscuits, jaffa cakes etc to eat one type of texture or part of it at a time.

I also have tics, have to do things a certain number of times, various other things like that. My partner has a lot less of that. I have a lot less of the clean thing as I said. In fact, I hate soap (especially bar soap, the texture freaks me out badly) and the smell of it and have great difficulty dealing with washing my hands. Even with that dry-on-your-hands soap you get in hospitals, with barely any smell, I don't wash my hands nearly as much as I should. Which is why I never thought I had OCD until I moved in with someone who has it, and it's become very obvious to me since then.

What is co-morbid?

co-morbid would be like what you are. You have AS co-morbid with OCD. It just means two or more neurological disorders at once I think.

Ah, ok, that makes sense. Would maybe help to explain the reason I am so ritualistic, I suppose.

If I DO have AS that is, lol. I'm not diagnosed and I went to see a psychologist for the first time yesterday... I hated him, he was terrible. Hah, he told me he didn't belive I was depressed. Um... I've just been disabled for life this year, and I was stimming like crazy in his office, rocking and not loking at anything, completely covered up and on the verge of tears. So whatever. My carer is going to write them a letter.

Anyway, sorry, a rant for another time. But yh, I do believ I have Aspergers, and if there is OCD too (which is also undiagnosed but is very obvious) then perhaps those two interacting with each other make me the way I am? Like two different kinds of meds being mixed.

I have a friend with OCD, a friend with ADHD, another friend that's also from Special Ed but without any specific diagnosis, and a friend that's NT with some AS traits.
