I sweeped the office a little bit and mom said I didn"t do good or put much into it and said "When do you ever put much into anything." I said I don't know although the truth is College since Psychology came first even to the point of doing a research paper during the 2 week holiday break LOL! So if it's my interest I PUT ALOT INTO IT! House Chores not so much LOL!

I don't think anyone does house chores because they're interesting, they just have to be done, LOL.

I don't really notice when chores need to be done. Like, I'll have about ten empty plates, cups, glasses, etc piling up around my bedroom, and I won't notice that they need taking into the kitchen until my mum complains about it. It's not that I'm being lazy, I just honestly don't notice them.

Amen, sister! Any time my mom comes to visit me, she is always saying things like "how do you live like this?" and "how can you look at that?". It has taken me eight years of living on my own to realize that she sees things that I actually don't see (is that mind-blind or just reasonable?). I see when any business in town gets a new sign, I see when there's a new movie out I want to rent, I see every dog or cat I go by. I see when people put new trees in their yards. I see plenty. But no, I really don't see what she points out to me (sometimes even when she points at it). And no, those things don't bother me-- because I don't see them!! !

I hate house chores, but they need to get done.

I am with the others on not noticing things. Some chores I do often, ie washing dishes, because I can't stand the pile up in the sink. Other chores like dusting and vacuuming don't occur to me because unless the dust affects me in some way, what does it matter?

My family (and roommates I have lived with) try subtlety with things like letting the laundry (dirty towels etc) pile up assuming I will see the pile and do laundry. I don't notice the piles. I do notice when I go to grab a clean one that there aren't any, at which point I will do a load. They then exclaim "finally, I was wondering when you would notice the towels piling up!! !". I didn't!, but thanks for the subtlety.

Agreed. They are boring, but they need doing, and if people live in the same house, they should contribute what they are able to.

I'm the same with the dishes; I hardly notice them, and I get accused of laziness for that. Once I notice them, I'll do them eventually, but both my parents have a thing about having the dishes done right away. They won't jump up and kill people if they're left for a little while...

I like cleaning house but I don't think of it as a chore. It helps me to focus by cleaning and putting things back where they belong.

Yes, I find some of these 'chores' therapeutic , I hate it when my house is dirty. I love symmetry and cleanliness. I can't study when my desk is messy for example.

I wait for the dishes to pile up in my sink before I do anything about it. I see them when one cup is in the sink or plate or a few items. I also don't do anything about it when I have ran out of cups or bowls or big spoons. But if the dishwasher is empty, then I put them in there than the sink.

I do the same.

It helps in my case that me and my flatmates have a rota for the cleaning - it's much easier to remember to do your bit like that.

I don't do well for things I don't care, don't enjoy, or aren't interested in. House chores, I only do what has to be done, laundry, as I won't have anything to wear, etc put something away, as my cat might knock it over. I don't really dust, or move furniture or anything like that.

Which is why I get called lazy a lot. Yet, I can do much more difficult and tiring things for a long time when I enjoy it. I mean, I found that I like to paint walls, and even though I do get tired, I don't really like to stop. Now how is that lazy?

I find it extremely difficult to concentrate on household chores...every cell of my scattered little brain is resistant...but if I didn't do them, noone would.

Haha I HATE untidyness, but I also hate chores. A harsh predicament if I may say so.
