Was anyone else like this? (following rules/obeying)

I remember back when I was around twelve and had been invited to a sleep over. The rest of the girls had wanted to watch horror movies, but I told them I wasn't allowed to watch them because they where R rated. I ended up going downstairs to watch TGIF with my friend's little brother and sister instead.

It wasn't because I was scared or anything, I just remembered my mom telling me that at one point and I just couldn't phantom not listening to her. Was/is anyone like that as a child or even now? Following the rules and always being aware of them, even when there where no adults around?

I remember never really wanting to rebel and/or break the rules for anything.

I don't know if it is an aspie thing or just a me thing really.

I think I was like this. I could have snuck my obsessions but I didn't unless my dad said it was okay. My mom took away Home Alone and Jurassic Park.

But I also tried to do things I wasn't supposed to do thinking I'd get away with it but mom always found out. But punishments, I always obeyed but I remember sneaking video games when I was 10 or 11 and then she finally took the controllers after catching me a few times. My mom said I always followed her directions and listened and said the other things I did was normal for kids. They all like to test their limits and see how much they can get away with. I don't think I really did that, I just did it thinking I won't get caught while other kids do it to see if they would or not. I never understood how can kids like getting into trouble and like being piunished. That's what made me follow rules, even if they were illogical. Tell me I'd get in trouble and what the punishment be, I'd listen.

In fact i would often go further and encourage others to break rules with me!

When I was little I was told by my parents or maybe sunday school teachers that "God is always looking even when your parents can't see what you are doing" but somehow it was only the case for certain things. Like when i got older, people at school would tell me to swear but i would refuse to say swearwords but then i cheated on tests and stuff. When i am driving, i would sometimes feel guilty for going over the speed limit cause it was breaking the law.

Yep, I was definitely like this. Big time rule follower.

I definitely feel more comfortable and functionable when in the confines of clearly laid out rules and boundaries.

Yes, I was like this and still am. Actually I think these days I stick to the rules more.

I am a rule follower. In 6th grade our class set up a mini-economy. I was elected sheriff and followed every rule to the letter, giving exceptions to no one not even my best friend (he still bugs me about it to this day). After a few weeks of this the teacher actually demoted me and the class held a new election. I didn't understand why at the time. I was upset about being demoted since I had followed all the rules exactly and enforced them with efficiency. She tried to explain to me that I was being too hard on students in the class, but I was only following the rulebook.

I understand these societal concepts much better now, but I'm much more comfortable following the rules.

I've always been a strict rule-follower about some things, but not everything. I am firm with my own rules and my parents', but I don't always follow the law (I'm guilty of illegal downloads...) I was very strict about adhering to the rules when I was a supervisor in a cafe... that caused people to dislike me

I defintely am uncomfortable breaking rules. I am in charge of operations at my job and I know I am irritatingly strict about doing things according to the proper procedure. My co-workers often bend the rules to accomodate our clientele (the nice thing to do) and are constantly telling me I need to lighten up. I just see most things as "black and white", right or wrong and have extreme guilt over not going by the book.

I was also like this as a child. I have an overpowering sense of guilt whenever I even think about going against the rules.

Mostly I'm a rulekeeper, though on occasion I am a rule breaker if I think the rule is particularly unfair or stupid.

Such as back in the day, mom tried to forbid me to watch Transformers. With my anxiety if I didn't watch it when it was on? Yeah, fat chance.

I was getting in trouble in Kindergarten for tattletaling. Was a very strict rule follower when I was younger. Now, not so much. I still like rules though.

When I was young I was a strict rulekeeper, even to the extent that I ended up not going along with things that others did for the sake of keeping morality when morality requires breaking the rules. It was very confusing to see others breaking rules. Then as I got older I found that many things other people told me were not true, and some rules were based on nonsense, and I could verify truth value of some things by testing. I became very difficult to manipulate because my science education gave me the ability to call out BS whenever it was presented to me, much to the frustration of others, I am sure.

Historically and currently to a large extent a rule follower, I find that if I don't have structure telling me what I can and cannot do, I tend to not do anything. I've worked out recently though that once I'm familiar with a situation I get more comfortable with being loose with the rules, like my slightly decreased respect for exact class start times over my high school years, but I'm still totally rigid on illegal stuff if there's any chance of being caught

I used to be that way until I learned that rules were made to put me in box with buttons that would make me do what others wanted when pressed.

I've since liberated my mind from such programming.

As a child and an adolescent I was very anxious about breaking rules because I felt like I couldn't handle getting caught. As an adult I learned some rules were provisional.
